viscom 2014: dimedis presents interactive Digital Signage and video walls

Cologne, 21st October 2014 – dimedis will present several new innovations in Digital Signage and Wayfinding at this year–s viscom, the international trade fair for visual communication in Frankfurt, Germany. Special emphasis will be placed on video walls and interactive applications such as a wayfinding system for shopping malls and the feedback tool iFeedback. From the 5th to the 7th of November, dimedis will present the multi award-winning Digital Signage systems kompas and kompas wayfinding at booth D51 in hall 3.1. Several showcases from recent projects and many practical demonstrations will give visitors a first-hand idea of the latest advancements and capabilities of the kompas system. In several talks and a practical “Lunch & Learn” workshop, dimedis will discuss the topic of how mobile devices can be successfully integrated into your Digital Signage strategy. Last but not least, viscom 2014 will see the world premiere of kompas proof of play, a new technology that allows the physical monitoring of Digital Signage displays using web cams. kompas proof of play is able to detect playback errors and alert the system operator.

Controlling video walls
With version 7.0, kompas is now able to control video walls. Content such as floor plans, Twitter walls, videos and news can be displayed on video walls consisting of a large number of individual screens. As always, kompas uses HTML5 technology to achieve this goal, essentially turning the video wall into a giant browser window.

At viscom, dimedis will present a showcase on the world–s largest free-standing video wall, located at Messe Düsseldorf–s Entrance North.

kompas proof of play to debut at viscom
viscom will see the first public demonstration of kompas proof of play, a feature which allows the live monitoring of Digital Signage displays using a webcam. kompas proof of play can detect playback-related problems that might not be immediately apparent to regular monitoring software, such as blacked-out displays in spite of a valid video signal from the player. Interested parties can get a first impression of kompas proof of play at viscom before its availability as a paid add-on feature in 2015.

Best Case Arcarden Shopping
At viscom 2014, dimedis will also show a Digital Signage solution for shopping malls. The mfi Management für Immobilien AG showcase (Arcaden Shopping) will demonstrate to visitors how Digital Signage can be used to increase customer retention. The mfi terminals, which come with two large, independently operating touchscreen displays, a printer, a card reader and a camera, integrate seamlessly with already existing coupon systems. Visitors to the dimedis booth will learn how the terminals are being used to improve communication, engagement and interaction with shoppers as well as strengthen customer loyalty.

Wayfinding at the dimedis booth
Wayfinding is another important aspect of Digital Signage, and at its viscom 2014 booth, dimedis will present a terminal used for wayfinding in the Arcaden shopping malls. Visitors will be able to go hands-on with kompas wayfinding, an intuitive and intelligent wayfinding solution that relies on touchscreen interactions and a special “LogoCloud” interface. The system documents all actions taken by users trying to find their way and offers anonymized trends and statistics to its operators. Each kompas wayfinding terminal calculates the routes dynamically based on its current position and orientation, meaning that the terminals can be installed anywhere on the premises and will always show the right way.

Digital interactive shop windows with kompas smart.remote
In the latest release of the kompas Digital Signage software, it is now possible to interact with the system using a smartphone. Standing in front of a display, viewers can scan a QR code to influence the content shown on the display. This allows them, for instance, to access more information about any of a number of different available offers. The QR code leads to a simple mobile-optimized website from which the user can choose which content should be displayed.

Talks in the supporting programme plus Lunch & Learn
Patrick Schröder, Division Manager Digital Signage at dimedis, will contribute to viscom–s supporting programme by talking about the successful integration of mobile devices into the point of sale experience. Schröder will discuss customer cases and talk about kompas smart.remote, which can be used to control content at the point of sale from a smartphone.
During a “Lunch & Learn” workshop, dimedis Managing Director Wilhelm Halling will hold a discussion on the same topic for anyone interested. The workshop will take place at the speaker–s corner in hall 3.1.

iFeedback as a dimedis booth exclusive
One of the displays at the dimedis booth will feature iFeedback, an application by BGM Media Solutions GmbH. Using iFeedback, visitors can quickly rate things such as a certain product or their shopping experience, thus providing valuable feedback which operators can use to improve on the future customer experience.
