The NHL and NeuLion Deliver Live and On-Demand Hockey to Record Audiences in 2010-11 Season

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwire) — 07/14/11 — The National Hockey League and NeuLion (TSX: NLN), the true end-to-end technology service provider for delivering live and on-demand content to any Internet-enabled device, today jointly announced that the 2010-11 NHL® season was a landmark year for digital delivery of professional hockey on PCs, gaming consoles, mobile and other connected devices.

NHL GameCenter LIVE, the premier online service offering streaming video of more than 1,000 live NHL games and on-demand video news and highlights, saw an overall 31 percent increase in new subscriptions and an 83 percent increase in renewals this season, indicating great demand for and satisfaction with the service.

“Whether it-s on a mobile, tablet, broadband or connected device, the NHL is exploiting digital technologies to shorten the distance between the League and our tech-savvy fans,” said Perry Cooper, SVP of digital media for the NHL. “This season, in particular, has been an overwhelming success for us with the emergence of the League-s global mobile footprint, and connected device strategy.”

During its inaugural season on Apple, Android, BlackBerry and Nokia mobile devices, the NHL GameCenter application was installed more than 2 million times worldwide. With more than 25 percent of the league-s players hailing from outside North America, the NHL-s focus on its digital products, powered by NeuLion, has helped meet the growing demand for NHL content from this time-shifted audience, including products tailored for individual countries such as Finland.

Along with mobile devices, the NHL and NeuLion also announced extensions for NHL GameCenter LIVE on Sony PlayStation® 3, Roku and Boxee, driving extended reach and adding additional value for NHL GameCenter LIVE subscribers by enabling multiple access points through a single, authenticated subscription.

“Tech-savvy NHL fans are passionate when it comes to these digital offerings, flocking to products that satiate their need for live and on-demand video, news and information of their favorite teams,” said Marc Sokol, executive vice president of NeuLion. “We-re very pleased with the record growth of users experiencing the fast-paced, thrilling action of the NHL through our industry-leading technology.”
