Dinner Is Served, Smart Recipe Platform Yummly Brings Contextual Recommendations to iOS Apps

REDWOOD CITY, CA — (Marketwired) — 10/28/14 — Yummly (), the leading innovator in recipe search & discovery, announced today, the introduction of contextual recommendations on the iPhone and iPad apps. When users open the app, in addition to personalizing the content to a user–s tastes, Yummly will now tailor to a person–s time, place and patterns.

Yummly–s proprietary Food Genome and patent-pending Food Intelligence technology already blends together to create an unmatched user experience with data-driven features such as personalized recommendations, semantic search, and a smart shopping list. With the new contextual recommendations functionality, it is bringing together more relevant and dynamic content to the users by leveraging a combination of contextual signals such as time of day, day of week, season, location, trends and more.

“With the improvements we–ve launched today, Yummly will make different contextual suggestions for every user. If you open the app at 4p.m. on a Tuesday you might get recommendations for a quick, seasonal dinner, but at 4p.m. on Friday you might get cocktails recommendations or ideas for Saturday breakfast — all based on your taste preferences,” said Brian Witlin, COO of Yummly. “By leveraging our data with a variety of outside factors, we will provide our users with an personalized, contextual experience directly on the devices they use everyday.”

In addition to the introduction of contextual recommendations, Yummly has implemented a number of other enhancements:

An improved collections feature, making it the most powerful recipe box in the world. Users now have the ability to easily search within their –Yums– for a favorite recipe or for recipes that meet a specific need.

New Quick Collections, a feature that allows users to easily search their recipe box for terms like –Vegetarian– or –Desserts–, and quickly categorize the results into a new collection. This makes it incredibly easy for a user to organize and reorganize their recipe collections in ways unavailable in any other app.

Yummly has also added more than 20,000 new recipes to give users more options for what to cook and create inspiration.

“Google, Yahoo! and Bing have been experimenting with contextual search & recommendations. We thought there–s no better use of this specific technology than to answer the question –what–s for dinner?–” said Dave Feller, CEO and founder of Yummly. “This is another example of how Yummly–s proprietary Food Genome and patent-pending Food Intelligence technology has uniquely positioned us to innovate and achieve our vision of personalizing the kitchen.”
