Town Sports International Improves Business Performance With Oracle Database Appliance

REDWOOD SHORES, CA — (Marketwired) — 10/31/14 — Oracle (NYSE: ORCL)

Town Sports International (TSI) operates fitness clubs in major United States metropolitan areas, including New York, Boston, Washington DC, and Philadelphia. TSI–s business strategy relies on cost-effective operational efficiency, due in part to investments in prime real estate for club locations. TSI turned to technology as a key strategic tool, upgrading its infrastructure with modern business applications from Oracle that are hosted on Oracle Database Appliance. By pairing with the simple appliance based architecture benefits of Oracle Database Appliance, the company achieves real-time visibility into its financials with the benefit of clustered redundancy, increased performance and full stack deployment in a single appliance.

Fitness club owner and operator has deployed to provide a high-availability, easy-to-manage “solution in a box” for its application upgrade.

TSI needed a high-availability, high-performance platform to host its updated applications, but wanted to avoid the complex and lengthy deployment timelines typically associated with integrating servers, networks, and storage from multiple vendors, as well as the costs and data center space requirements associated with such projects.

With the help of Cintra Software and Services, Inc., a Platinum level member in Oracle PartnerNetwork, TSI selected Cintra–s recommended architecture based on two Oracle Database Appliances with the virtualized platform, one for test and one for production, as the platform for its deployment of Oracle Database with , Oracle VM and Oracle E-Business Suite.

TSI–s Oracle Database Appliances are optimized to speed performance for Oracle E-Business Suite applications, delivering real-time intelligence into the company–s financials and inventory.

By deploying a complete, preintegrated package of hardware and software, TSI reduced upfront capital expenses and expects to significantly reduce ongoing IT maintenance tasks.

TSI will also benefit from the Oracle Database Appliance–s flexible capacity-on-demand licensing model, allowing the company to expand its database licenses based on current and projected demand while helping to ensure application and database redundancy.

Additionally, TSI has adopted 12c for proactive in-depth database monitoring and alerting.

“To help keep our members fit and balanced, we must also maintain a healthy IT infrastructure and strong operations,” said Paul Barron, chief information officer, Town Sports International. “By upgrading our Oracle Applications atop a streamlined, prepackaged Oracle Database Appliance, our organization is better equipped to keep our financials healthy and ensure our operations are in great shape.”
