The Royal Melbourne Hospital Manages Asset Information With Aconex

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — (Marketwired) — 11/04/14 — Aconex, provider of a leading cloud collaboration platform for the global construction industry, has deployed its new Dynamic Manuals product for mobile asset information management at The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), one of the world–s leading clinical hospitals. The hospital–s operations team uses the tablet-based, Windows 8-compatible solution to access and update its digital operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals on site.

“We–re now able to locate facility information 80% faster than we did before,” said James Robinson, operations manager at The RMH. “With Aconex, we–ve consolidated and streamlined years– worth of construction drawings, documents and decisions into an easy-to-navigate, digital knowledge database that we can leverage for years to come. We–ll also be able to collect and update O&M information during future capital projects for seamless handover from construction to operation. The Aconex Handover suite is a game changer for us.”

Dynamic Manuals is the newest member of the Aconex Handover suite, which also includes Digital Manuals and Smart Manuals for production and delivery of digital O&M manuals. For a video on the successful deployment of Dynamic Manuals at The RMH, see .

The RMH operations team manages maintenance assets worth approximately A$260 million. Historically, all drawings and documents that comprise the RMH O&M manuals have been stored as hard copies and on compact discs. As such, they are prone to incompleteness and inaccuracy, and risk becoming outdated. These files can also be difficult to locate, and there is no way to search them for asset data quickly — much less from mobile devices while on the go.

With Dynamic Manuals, all of this O&M data is stored digitally in the cloud for fast, easy search and access by the RMH operations team. Rather than poring over paper drawings or flipping through documents in three-ring binders in the operations office — which could have taken up to four hours — team members have real-time asset information at their fingertips, on site or wherever they happen to be. All they need to do to access the data is scan a barcode or QR code on a specific asset in the facility from their tablets.

Dynamic Manuals is integrated with the cloud-based Aconex platform, which has been deployed for collaborative project information and process management on prior construction projects at The RMH as well as the . This A$1-billion, public-private partnership (PPP) project is affiliated with The RMH under Melbourne Health, one of Australia–s leading public healthcare providers.

Launched in 2013, Aconex Handover solutions are being used by more than 200 owners and contractors to manage the handover of digital O&M manuals. Dynamic Manuals was launched on October 29, 2014 (see ).

“We–re pleased to see the efficiencies and improvements that The RMH has achieved with Dynamic Manuals in managing its asset information,” said Kerri Lee Sinclair, vice president of new business at Aconex. “While enjoying the benefits of mobile access and fast, targeted searches, the operations team is able to keep its O&M data secure in the cloud and safe from the effects of natural disasters and other unforeseen events. Also, as new projects are completed, the O&M information for them will flow automatically to the operations team.”
