Timesys Partners With GizmoSphere to Provide Embedded Linux Solution for Gizmo 2 Single-Board Computer

PITTSBURGH, PA — (Marketwired) — 11/11/14 — (), provider of the industry–s most-easy-to-use and affordable embedded Linux solutions, today announced the company has partnered with GizmoSphere, a nonprofit open-source development board community, to provide embedded Linux solutions for purpose-built applications designed with the powerful new Gizmo 2 platform. The latest offering from Timesys further reinforces the company–s commitment to bringing ease-of-use to open source developer communities, and it expands the company–s software support for GizmoSphere platforms which already includes support for the Gizmo I board and Explorer Kit.

The affordable Gizmo 2 platform features the powerful AMD GX-210HA dual-core processor and Radeon HD 8210E discrete-class graphics, making it ideal for a variety of embedded applications requiring high graphics acceleration and low energy consumption. The Gizmo 2 platform ships with a Timesys-powered embedded Linux environment that showcases accelerated video and native C/C++ and Python application development. It also includes access to LinuxLink, Timesys– comprehensive suite of tools for building an optimized embedded Linux platform.

Using LinuxLink, the GizmoSphere community of developers can efficiently design, build, deploy, optimize and maintain Linux applications that leverage the advanced GPU of Gizmo 2. Developers can access the demo sources and use it as a starting point from which to customize their own application or they can choose to customize their own embedded Linux BSP/SDK. In addition, with a LinuxLink for Gizmo 2 account, DIY makers and professionals have access to additional development resources including “How To” documentation, videos and code snippets, enabling them to design next-generation devices for markets that include industrial control and automation, digital signage and more. Developers can register for a free LinuxLink account, at .

“We–re excited to partner with GizmoSphere and to support the innovation of DIY makers, and professional developers who are building deeply embedded devices based with Linux on the Gizmo 2 platform,” said Brian Gildon, vice president of business development, Timesys. “At Timesys, we value community-driven development that enriches embedded Linux adoption and expertise. Our comprehensive, easy-to-use embedded Linux solutions combined with the flexible, powerful Gizmo 2 platform will foster creativity and enable developers to build sophisticated devices for a variety of markets.”

“At GizmoSphere, we believe the future belongs to those who build it. With the introduction of Gizmo 2, the future looks bright,” said Colin Cureton, product and technology manager, GizmoSphere. “We realize great hardware alone isn–t the path to igniting innovation. You need a community with the tools and support to master through knowledge and experimentation. Timesys– commitment to bring the GizmoSphere community its embedded Linux expertise and free development tools will arm Gizmo users to build the unthinkable.”

In addition to offering its free and open LinuxLink tools, Timesys also offers commercial support packages, services and training options for professionals who need to minimize risk and schedule delays. Among these offerings is Timesys– TimeStorm, an Eclipse-based that automates environment setup and kernel configuration and integrates various open source tools such as the OProfile, LTTng, and UI development frameworks such as Qt. In addition, Timesys offers contracts to assist developers with build and runtime issues on Gizmo 2. For development teams needing additional engineering resources, Timesys can act as an extension of the customer–s engineering team. And for those wanting to adopt Linux or keep abreast of new developments and best practices, Timesys offers that is tailored to the customer–s specific requirements.
