EANTC and Ixia Team to Deliver Industry-s First Multi-Vendor 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) Benchmarking Tests

CALABASAS, CA — (Marketwire) — 07/18/11 — (NASDAQ: XXIA), the leading global provider of converged IP and wireless network test solutions, and EANTC, a vendor-neutral consultancy and test facility, announced today a cooperative effort to deliver testing criteria, methodology, and administration of multiple vendors- 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) switches. This EANTC-led, industry-first set of benchmark tests provides carriers, data center managers, and application service providers with a detailed insight into various Higher Speed Ethernet (HSE) products using a consistent test methodology via Ixia-s 100GE testing solution. The first in this series of tests took place during May and June, 2011, and the first two 100GE product test reports for and are available on .

Fixed and mobile packet networks worldwide are experiencing increasing traffic, driven by video applications, mobile data, and mission critical business services. As an emerging technology, there are currently few neutral comparisons of various vendors- 100GE HSE products — making it difficult for network administrators to choose the devices that best suit their HSE needs. EANTC and Light Reading have created a public test program aimed at providing network administrators with an unbiased, empirical view of new 100GE systems coming to market.

In the open test program, EANTC validated the performance, service scalability, and power efficiency of the new HSE router interfaces. This industry benchmark, powered by Ixia-s 100GE testing solutions, ran a full spectrum of network tests that measured:

RFC 2544 throughput and latency test across the backplane (100GE to 100GE)

RFC 2544 throughput and latency fan-out (10×10 GE to 100GE)

Similar IP multicast traffic scenarios

RSVP-TE scalability — router-s ability to act as an MPLS Label Switched Router (LSR)

Layer 3 VPNs scalability — scaling up the VPNs

Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) scalability

Quality of service (QoS)

Energy consumption

“Though still evolving and being adopted into various network infrastructures, 100GE solutions are rapidly gaining ground as a go-to technology for accommodating rapid increase in bandwidth-intensive, media-rich applications,” said Carsten Rossenhövel, Managing Director at EANTC. “We selected Ixia as a testing partner for both its early involvement with the IEEE standard-s development, and the fact that its well-engineered 100GE testing solution is keeping pace with vendors- services scalability.”

“As more people use cloud services for data retrieval, streaming, and other resource-intensive media, providers will require exponentially increasing amounts of bandwidth — and 100GE links satisfy this need,” said Atul Bhatnagar, president and CEO of Ixia. “Ixia-s participation in EANTC-s groundbreaking test demonstration is proof of our ongoing innovation in and understanding of 100GE deployment scenarios and needs.”
