Joyent and Stackmob Announce Strategic Relationship to Provide One-Stop Mobile Application Backend and Cloud Hosting Platform

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwire) — 07/19/11 — Joyent, the global provider of cloud computing software and services, and StackMob, provider of a turnkey backend development and deployment platform for mobile applications, today announced a strategic relationship whereby StackMob will provide its mobile application development platform, which runs on Joyent-s public cloud, to users of Joyent-s public cloud service and the Node.js-based Platform-as-a-Service solution.

Through this strategic relationship, StackMob will deliver a complete backend technology stack as a platform for mobile applications, enabling developers to build, deploy and scale feature-rich mobile applications faster and easier than ever — all on a fully hosted and managed platform. Developers will be able to integrate common mobile functions such as messaging, analytics and monetization via easy-to-use APIs instead of spending valuable resources creating these services themselves.

“At a time when users worldwide are shifting toward mobile applications and away from web applications, there-s a critical need for simple and powerful solutions that take care of the development fundamentals and accelerate time to market for mobile developers,” said Ty Amell, founder and CEO of StackMob. “Services that help a developer create an API, integrate messaging services into their app, leverage mobile analytics, and use a successful monetization mechanism mean that developers don-t have to reinvent the wheel every time they develop a new app.”

StackMob-s mobile platform is built upon Joyent-s IaaS platform, utilizing Joyent SmartMachines and hyper-scalable architecture to deliver a high performance and affordable mobile PaaS platform. As the corporate steward and key contributor of Node.js, and with years of experience delivering scalable and reliable cloud solutions for thousands of games on the Facebook network, Joyent will work with StackMob to provide their existing developer base with a world class mobile solution.

“We have always provided developers with cloud infrastructure built for next-generation applications, so working with StackMob to provide their mobile solution is a natural fit for Joyent,” said Steve Tuck, General Manager of JoyentCloud. “And as StackMob-s customers commercially launch their applications, the Joyent cloud infrastructure is ready to support their growth.”

StackMob-s service is currently in private beta. Developers can sign up for the service at .
