First Electric Cooperative Provides Real-Time Alerts and Restoration Status Updates to Members With TextPower

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — (Marketwired) — 01/08/15 — TextPower, a leader in innovative text messaging software solutions, today announced that First Electric Cooperative is successfully using TextPower SmartAlerts to quickly and easily communicate directly with utility members. SmartAlerts is simple to set up and the lowest cost method for First Electric to communicate power outages and updates with its large customer base.

First Electric was incorporated April 26, 1937, as the first electric cooperative in Arkansas under the Rural Electrification Act. Today, First Electric serves more than 91,000 active accounts throughout 17 counties in central and southeast Arkansas.

“We wanted to provide tech-savvy members with an easy, fast method to report outages and receive quick restoration status updates at their convenience,” said Tonya Sexton, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, First Electric Cooperative. “An added benefit is that it reduces volume to our outage reporting number during widespread outages.”

First Electric currently offers three methods for members to report outages and receive updates — by phone, web and text. Members who use TextPower do not have to call the cooperative–s outage-reporting number repeatedly to receive status updates. And as more members enroll in the service, it will help ease call volume during widespread outages.

“Weather is not always predictable, and a power outage can occur when you are least expecting it,” said Mark Nielsen, Executive Chairman and co-founder of TextPower. “Without good communications on how long an outage will last and continual updates, customers can feel completely lost. SmartAlerts solves this problem by immediately supplying this information to First Electric–s customers via text message.”
