Value of Public Mobile-s Spectrum Increases with LTE

TORONTO, ONTARIO — (Marketwire) — 07/20/11 — Public Mobile-s value has been further enhanced by the inclusion of G Band in the 4th Generation LTE standard. Wireless experts from around the world recently met in Bratislava, Slovakia to add new capabilities to the so called 4th generation wireless technology known as LTE (“Long Term Evolution”). One of the significant additions to this 3GPP (3G Partnership Project) standard was the inclusion of the G Band frequencies as a supported frequency in LTE. 3GPP is an organization made up of operators and technology R&D companies from around the world.

This inclusion of G Band in the 4th Generation LTE standard further enhances the value of Public Mobile-s spectrum which it purchased in 2008. At that time, some people doubted the viability of building a phone network using G Band spectrum. That doubt was put to rest, when Public Mobile placed its first commercial G Band wireless call on February 5, 2009 and subsequently launched its wireless network in May 2010.

Public Mobile has built a wireless network with software defined radios which means the existing equipment can easily be upgraded to support LTE technology in the future.

“Public Mobile continues to pass savings onto customers by building a company with a demonstrable and sustainable cost advantage,” said Public Mobile CEO, Alek Krstajic. Added Krstajic, “3GPP-s inclusion of G band frequencies in the standards specification opens the door for an LTE deployment leveraging Public Mobile-s existing investment in the future.”
