The new patent is the foundation of Cosemi–s platform to provide high speed connectivity for consumer applications, everything from 4K Ultra High Definition Television (UHD) to Gigabit I/O communications between mobile devices, all at a cost significantly lower than the competitive architectures. “This patent places Cosemi in the leading position to provide a variety of products such as active HDMI cables, which are increasingly needed for HD/UHD video connections, especially for long distances and high performance resolutions like 4K and 8K. The newly issued patent covers a novel active cable architecture which uses fiber optic cables to transmit multi-gigabit data signals and copper wires to carry power and other functions. Cosemi–s patent allows fiber optic connectivity traditionally used in Datacom and Telecom applications, to now be economically applied to the exponentially growing number of consumer applications. The growing popularity of 4K TVs shown at the CES 2015 in Las Vegas will trigger a strong demand for high-speed active HDMI cables.
