Alex Eckelberry Joins Malwarebytes Board

SAN JOSE, CA — (Marketwired) — 03/02/15 — Malwarebytes, the company founded to protect people and businesses from sophisticated malicious software, today announced the appointment of Alex Eckelberry to its board. Eckelberry brings a wealth of industry experience for the management team to draw upon, having previously been CEO and president at Sunbelt Software, where he guided the company to a successful acquisition by GFI.

His eight-year tenure at Sunbelt Software saw him transition the company from a small IT vendor to a successful security software provider with revenues of $50 million. At GFI, Eckelberry ran the security business unit, managing a $60 million P&L, with responsibility for GFI–s global SaaS, gateway and on-premise security product lines. Prior to Sunbelt, he was a Managing Director at Bulldog Capital (now part of Monitor Deloitte), an investment firm with peak assets of $1.4bn. His previous experience includes product leadership positions with Ontrack Data, Quarterdeck Corporation (now part of Symantec) and Borland.

In addition to his business acumen, Eckelberry has dedicated significant time to a variety of non-profit organizations seeking to fight cybercrime. He is currently a board member of StopBadware, an anti-malware organization originally founded by Google and Harvard; a co-founder of the Phishing Incident and Termination Squad; and founder of The Julie Group, which seeks fairness in the intersection of technology and law.

“Alex has a huge amount of experience in the security industry, which will be invaluable to the growth of our company,” said Marcin Kleczynski, CEO of Malwarebytes. “In addition to this, he is a valuable participant in the fight against the bad guys, something we value above all else at Malwarebytes.”

“I–ve known Marcin for many years, and recognized early on that he was on to something, even when he was just starting. He has been far ahead of the industry in terms of how he approaches the threat landscape for some time,” Eckelberry said. “With hundreds of millions of users, an enterprise product that is gaining serious traction and a great technology roadmap, the opportunity for the company is huge. I see a very bright future for Malwarebytes and I–m looking forward to helping deliver on this.”
