City of Greater Geelong Deploys Aconex for Library & Heritage Centre Project

CITY OF GREATER GEELONG, AUSTRALIA — (Marketwired) — 04/07/15 — Aconex Limited (ASX: ACX), provider of a leading cloud collaboration platform for the global construction industry, today announced its implementation by the City of Greater Geelong to manage project-wide information and processes for the , a government infrastructure and community development project.

An iconic addition to Geelong–s architectural and cultural landscape, the new Library & Heritage Centre features a unique geodesic dome constructed of glass and reinforced concrete and designed by the renowned Melbourne firm of ARM Architecture. The nine-story building will not only provide access to printed and digital information but also serve as a community hub in the centre of Geelong. It will replace the City–s previous 50-year-old, two-story building — which housed a library and separate Heritage Centre — with a much larger facility, offering cutting-edge technology and spaces to encourage interactive learning.

The A$45.5-million development is the single largest construction project ever undertaken by the City of Greater Geelong. Jointly funded by the City, the State of Victoria, and the Australian Commonwealth Government, the high-profile development is required to meet the terms of strict grant agreements, as well as funding guidelines and timelines. It is expected to be completed in late 2015.

“The overwhelming response when we inquired among project teams about the best solution for managing this development was Aconex,” said Scott Cavanagh, manager of capital projects at the Greater Geelong City Council. “The platform is user-friendly and broadly adopted in the industry, and it has the robust functionality we needed to manage a project of this scope and complexity within extremely tight project schedules.”

After successfully deploying Aconex to manage pre-construction information and processes, the City is now using the online collaboration platform for tendering, document control, and workflow management, and Aconex Field for field inspections and defect management. With Aconex Field, inspection teams can quickly and accurately enter data in the field, attach site photos and directly assign defect resolution to the responsible contractor, thereby improving efficiency and reducing risk.

The multi-company project team consists of more than 330 individuals from over 100 different organizations. More than 100,000 registered documents have been generated and revised so far during the course of the project. With contractors and architects in geographically dispersed locations, frictionless collaboration is essential, especially since the centre features complex design elements with demanding construction requirements.

Aconex gives team members immediate access to project information, correspondence, and both current and prior versions of documents, which are securely and permanently stored in the cloud. Workflows and schedules defined by the City keep the entire team–s activities tightly controlled across the project. The platform provides the City with a complete audit trail that tracks all project communications, decisions and changes to help reduce the risk of delays and disputes.

“The government quality standards and public expectations of this project are exceptionally high,” added Mr. Cavanagh. “As the development takes shape and community excitement grows, we–re relying on Aconex to stay on track and keep everyone informed of our progress.”

“All levels of government in Australia are investing in new infrastructure projects, which represent a significant opportunity for Aconex to serve its broad customer base of owners and contractors,” said Steven Brant, general manager of the company–s Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) region. “The new Geelong Library & Heritage Centre is a prime example of community development that will become part of history, and we–re pleased to be able to help the City and their project team deliver the project successfully.”

Aconex Limited provides a leading cloud collaboration platform for the global construction industry. This platform gives owners and contractors in the construction, infrastructure, and energy and resources sectors project-wide visibility and control between the many different organizations collaborating across their projects. With more than 50,000 user organizations and over A$800 billion of project value delivered in more than 70 countries, Aconex is the industry–s most widely adopted and trusted platform.
