Awarding of the German Data Center Prize as part of future thinking

(arvato Systems) Gütersloh/Darmstadt, Germany – As the winner of the 2014 German Data Center Prize, arvato Systems will hold a presentation at this year’s future thinking, the networking platform for the Germany data center industry.

Energy-efficient thinking, a sustainable approach to resources, and the development of innovations are the topics in focus at future thinking, which is set to take place for this sixth time in a row this year. The who’s who in Germany’s data-center industry will converge on Darmstadt, Germany, on 20 and 21 April to attend the industry’s awards ceremony for innovative energy-efficiency projects.

Experts from arvato Systems, which won the 2014 German Data Center Prize in the category ‘Modifications to an Existing Data Center to Increase Energy Efficiency,’ will be in attendance to hold presentations on IMAC and DCIM 2.0 from the perspective of a real-world large-scale data center.

Newly installed IMAC processes (Install Move Add Change) record and describe the physical life cycle of all ICT components in the data center. Data center infrastructure management (DCIM) represents the counterpart at the management level. This asset database stores and inventories all of the components, which can be represented visually if required. In addition, it is possible to generate reports for management at the touch of a button. This begins with the data center shell and ends with the data cable from the switch port to the server port with the stored IP address and power consumption. The combination of IMAC and DCIM sustainably and transparently improves organization, planning projects, billing models as well as energy balancing for the company and, ultimately, for customers.

“Standing still is moving backwards,” says Marcus Bärenfänger, Energy Efficiency Manager at arvato Systems. “We benefit from the measures mentioned above when it comes to annual data center certifications on information security (ISO 27001) and certifications regarding our data center infrastructures in accordance with eco, the Association of the German Internet Industry.”
