Radix Partners With the International Center for Journalists– (ICFJ) Press Freedom Initiative

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/04/15 — , a leading new gTLD registry, announced today that it has partnered with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) to support its Press Freedom initiative. As part of the partnership, Radix will donate a portion of its revenue generated from .press domain registrations from the month of May to ICFJ.

World Press Freedom day, held on May 3, celebrates the fundamental principles of press freedom and pays tribute to journalists who have risked or lost their lives in the line of duty. Closely linked to freedom of speech, freedom of the press includes both the liberty to speak openly and the right to be heard without fear of government restraint. While technology and social media helped democratize news reporting, persecution has also increased, and the need for awareness of press freedom is greater now more than ever.

“Radix partnered with ICFJ in order to help support journalists to tell their stories independently without fear for the authorities that may want to silence their voice,” said Parag Barhate, category manager for .press at Radix. “Radix is dedicated to creating a notable platform for journalists from around the world to differentiate their work from others and also have their unique message highlighted on a global scale.”

As part of its partnership with Radix, ICFJ will host a raffle contest for journalists and award 25 free .press domains to create awareness about Radix–s TLD. The organization will also be adopting .press domains for its portals to encourage its followers to utilize this domain as well.

“Around the world, journalists are facing an increase in both physical and online threats,” said Sharon Moshavi, vice president of new initiatives at the International Center for Journalists. “To ensure freedom of the press, we need digital safety and open platforms so that journalists can practice their craft without fear.”

.press domains can be registered at or through any of any of Radix–s 85+ accredited registrars like GoDaddy, Netsol or Name.com.

Radix (Radix FZC), the gTLD registry behind — the dedicated domain for journalists and the press industry. ICFJ has worked with journalists from 180 countries. Aiming to raise the standards of journalism, ICFJ offers hands-on training, workshops, seminars, fellowships and international exchanges to reporters and media managers around the globe.
