Industry Leaders in the Online Video Ecosystem Converge in New York City for First Streaming Video Alliance General Member Meeting

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwired) — 05/12/15 — The (SVA), a newly formed industry forum comprised of leading companies from the online video ecosystem, convenes today in New York City for the first General Member Meeting. Today–s session will focus on welcoming new members to the Alliance, which include Intel and Verizon; a planning session for established Working Groups focused on Open Caching, Android Client Ecosystem, Quality of Experience and Content Ingestion; and industry updates from members. The invite-only General Member Meeting will be held during Streaming Media East at the New York Hilton Midtown.

The SVA was established to develop an open architecture, propose standards and promote best practices to support the future of streaming video. Leading organizations from across the industry are collaborating via the SVA to discuss and plan how the video ecosystem can operate openly and scale to best meet consumer demand.

The SVA announced its , which will propose standards and promote best practices that foster an open and universal caching architecture. During this meeting, the SVA will report on the progress of other active working groups and how members can contribute to these initiatives.

As demand continues to rise, we at Charter, and others in the industry, must find ways to scale our networks to accommodate this growth in ways that enhance customers– experiences and provide equal access to all content,” said Jay Rolls, CTO at Charter Communications and SVA Board Member. “To that end, our newly formed alliance will collaborate with leaders from across the streaming video ecosystem to propose new industry standards and establish and promote best practices, with the goal of creating an open architecture, including a transparent system of storing content within networks so our respective customers have the best possible experience, including access to any content they want to watch.”

With Intel, PeerApp and Verizon joining the group, the Alliance has more than 20 industry-leading content providers, network operators, content delivery networks and technology providers. The founding members of the SVA include: Charter Communications, Cisco, Comcast, EPIX, Fox Networks, Korea Telecom, Liberty Global, Limelight Networks, MLBAM, Qwilt, Telecom Italia, Telstra, Ustream, Viacom, Wowza and Yahoo.
