arvato Systems Transfers Central eGK Components into Production Environment

(arvato Systems) Gütersloh, Germany — By completing product authorization with gematik, arvato Systems marks another important milestone in the eHealth Card project and establishes the basis for transferring the central telematics infrastructure for further trials in the production environment.

The data highway, a central component of the eHealth Card project, progresses to an important next step with the transition from the gematik test environment into the production environment for testing incl. approximately 1,000 service providers in the North-West and South-East trial regions.

“We’re delighted to have successfully completed the product authorization process and now we’re ready with the third sub-contractor for the next tests within the production environment,” says Jan Wemmel, Director Health & Public Sector at arvato Systems.

“As soon as we have successfully completed the provision of decentralized components, which are currently undergoing independent testing by the first and second sub-contractors, further trials can continue in the live system,” says Prof. Dr. Arno Elmer, Chief Executive Officer of gematik.

The first applications to be introduced will be the management of insured persons– master data (Versichertenstammdatenmanagement/VSDM) and the qualified electronic signature (QES). For example, insured persons– master data, such as address data, is automatically updated without needing to obtain a completely new card. The qualified electronic signature replaces a doctor’s handwritten signature. This will either be used for electronic communication with medical reports or electronic invoices.

There are already plans for further applications, for example, emergency data management (Notfalldatenmanagement/NFDM).

Setting up and operating the data highway, i.e., the linking of all parties involved from the German healthcare system, is one of the most complex IT projects ever undertaken and represents a quantum leap in modernizing the German healthcare industry.
