Artefact Continues Momentum With Three More Industry Award Wins

SEATTLE, WA — (Marketwire) — 08/01/11 — Artefact, the Seattle-based technology product design firm whose mission is to utilize the power of design to improve people-s lives, announced today that the firm was honored with awards from leading industry organizations CORE77 and SPARK. These latest accolades recognized projects that sought to create product innovations that are centered on changing human behavior for a preferable future — from electronic medical data to digital cameras to personal health and wellness.

“We are honored to have been recognized by CORE77 and SPARK for projects that were inspired by our team-s internal passions,” said Rob Girling, principal and co-founder of Artefact. “Whether it is through reimagining the digital camera or inspiring individuals to improve their own personal health, we aim to incubate new product concepts that are consistent with our vision for improving lives through design.”

CORE77 Design Awards Honor “Modwells”
In its inaugural year, the CORE77 Design Awards celebrated the best of the design profession by honoring top projects across 15 key categories. In the Speculative Objects/Concepts category, Artefact-s project was awarded the runner-up distinction. Modwells is a customizable personal healthcare system that helps individuals to improve their physical and emotional health for a better quality of life. The system uses a set of mix-and-match wearable sensors that collect and access health data, providing feedback and alerts to help the user manage and share their individual health goals. In use, Modwells also helps users connect directly with healthcare professionals who are monitoring their overall health.

“We are delighted that the jury chose to recognize this project in the Speculative Objects/Concepts category,” said Allan Chochinov, editor-in-chief, CORE77. “Though articulating only one scenario, the craft, finish, and ritualistic touch points gesture at a set of solutions that could comprise a rich, holistic offering.”

Artefact Collects Top Honors at the SPARK Design Awards
Not slowing down, Artefact was recognized by the design community-s prestigious SPARK Awards in an emerging category, SPARK:CONCEPT. The prize was unveiled in 2011 and honors the industry-s best conceptual work. Artefact-s was awarded the competition-s coveted SPARK! Award. Merging the connectivity of mobile phones and the optics of DSLRs, WVIL fully integrates user interface and industrial design and successfully creates a seamless experience in hardware and software. WVIL offers a glimpse at what is possible when re-thinking a product category that suffers from innovation stagnation. To date, WVIL: Camera Futura has been viewed more than one million times on YouTube and Vimeo and the concept inspired over 9,000 blog posts worldwide.

“Well researched and well thought through concept,” said Andreas Harlow, Global Creative Director, Nike of the WVIL: Camera Futura. “I love that the designers showed restrain with styling and focused on allowing functionality to emerge. Well done.”

The SPARK Awards also honored Artefact-s work to simplify electronic medical data through the project. In conjunction with Seattle Children-s Hospital, one of the leading children-s hospitals in the country, the Seattle Children-s Patient Information System provides physicians with an integrated view of patient data for easier, faster decision making and better doctor-patient communications. Honored with a SPARK: Concept Bronze Award, the Seattle concept solution brings together the story of a patient from multiple sources, and is built to ensure human interactions remain at the core of the healing process. The Children-s Patient Information System was a silver award from the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).
