QuickLogic Announces Second-Generation DPO Technology, Increases Power Savings for Smartphones and Tablets

SUNNYVALE, CA — (Marketwire) — 08/01/11 — QuickLogic Corporation (NASDAQ: QUIK), the leader in low power Customer Specific Standard Products (), is proud to announce the release of its second generation DPO (Display Power Optimizer) technology, which offers additional system battery life extension capabilities through a novel feature called -Intelligent Brightness Control.-

Intelligent Brightness Control improves upon the previous generation of DPO technology by increasing power savings when watching video. Previously, the DPO technology regulated display brightness solely based on ambient lighting resulting in documented battery life extensions of as much as 41%. The new Intelligent Brightness Control capability in the DPO 2.0 technology offers additional system battery life savings of up to 10% (content-dependent). By combining the capabilities of adjusting display brightness based on ambient light and content, the DPO 2.0 technology can improve single-charge system battery life by as much as 50%.

QuickLogic-s complementary VEE technology, based on the iridix® core from Apical Limited, greatly enhances the viewability of mobile displays under challenging lighting conditions such as bright ambient light through dynamically optimizing video characteristics to provide a natural viewing experience based on the human visual system. Working with our VEE technology, DPO adjusts display brightness without negatively affecting the viewing experience, significantly extending single-charge battery life.

“Our new DPO 2.0 technology, paired with our VEE technology, represents a significant evolution in our display enhancement and power savings product line,” said Paul Karazuba, senior product marketing manager for QuickLogic. “Combining our existing ability to dramatically increase display viewability and extend battery life based on the viewing environment with the new capability to save even more power based upon displayed content benefits our OEM customers and end users.”

QuickLogic-s DPO 2.0 technology is available immediately as a PSB (Proven System Block) in mass-production qualified ArcticLink® II VX2 and VX4 CSSP solution platforms. Contact QuickLogic at or visit for more information.
