Linux Foundation–s Individual Membership Drive to Help IT Professionals Advance Careers

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 07/08/15 — The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux and collaborative development, today announced its biannual Individual Membership Drive.

Each new member who joins today through August 8, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. PT will be able to register for the Linux Foundation System Administrator (LFCS) or Certified Engineer (LFCE) certification exam for $49, an offer not available since the program was announced last August. This price represents a nearly 85 percent discount off the regular cost of LFCS and 35 percent discount off of the LFCE certification exam. When coupled with the price of Linux Foundation membership of $99, the benefits of certification and membership pay for themselves many times over.

Individual members of The Linux Foundation help advance the Linux operating system and collaborative development and support the work of Linux creator Linus Torvalds. They also receive exclusive benefits that include a Linux.com email address (e.g. ); employee purchase pricing from Dell, HP and Lenovo; and a variety of other discounts to attend events, take training and subscribe to industry publications.

“Membership in The Linux Foundation comes with a variety of benefits but most of all allows individuals to support the work of Linus Torvalds and so many more developers and IT managers advancing Linux and the open source software,” said Amanda McPherson, chief marketing officer at The Linux Foundation. “We–re happy to be able to use our membership drive to make Linux certification more available to more people around the world, increasing the benefits of membership for years to come.”

The Linux Foundation hopes this offer can enable more individuals to get started in a lucrative IT career or increase their Linux skill set. Linux has become the entry point for anyone seeking a technology career because it dominates most of today–s IT infrastructure, from cloud computing to virtualization, web, embedded and much more. Because of this, we–re facing a shortage of Linux talent all over the globe, and The Linux Foundation is working on increasing access to free or affordable Linux learning materials and certifications.

The Linux Foundation Certification Program was announced a year ago and offers professionals performance-based exams that are available anytime, anywhere and that are distribution flexible. Combined with increased Linux training offerings and the free –Introduction to Linux– Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), which to learn Linux, the Certification Program is helping to expand the talent pool of Linux professionals worldwide.

By joining The Linux Foundation in July, which also marks the annual celebration of SysAdmins around the world with SysAdmin Day, individuals will be able to both position themselves for career growth and reap the benefits that come with Linux Foundation membership.
