Axosoft–s Inaugural #ItWasNeverADress STEAM Conference Invites 12-17 Year-Old Girls From Across Arizona to Help Them Build Confidence and Learn How to Code

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — (Marketwired) — 07/17/15 — Axosoft, an agile project management software company, will be hosting its inaugural conference on July 18 and 19, for girls ages 12 – 17, to help them build confidence and interest in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics). Axosoft has worked with local schools and nonprofits to hand select 54 girls to attend. This is part of their wildly successful #ItWasNeverADress campaign, which recognizes the underrepresentation of women in the tech industry and other spaces. The mission of this conference is to address this issue by inspiring the next generation of women to pursue STEAM fields.

Over the course of two days, participants will learn valuable tools to take on the tech world and the challenges that surround it with gusto! The conference will feature renowned speakers, including Phoenix Mayor, Greg Stanton, 2015 Miss Phoenix, Kaitlin Vortherms, and community leaders teaching cutting-edge curriculum and hands-on, interactive workshops.

Participants will have access to the following programs and experts:

Programming skills by David Dodge, Founder of CodaKid

How to “reprogram” your inner critic by Hilary Weber, CEO of Opportu

Socially conscious marketing by Evan Clark, Founder and Creative Director of Spectrum Experience

Identity development and anti-bullying tactics by Melissa Medvin, Regional Education Director of the Anti-Defamation League

Engineering skills to create wearable technology in the form of capes, by Hilary Harp, Artist and Professor of art at Arizona State University (ASU)

At the end of the conference, the girls will leave with a business plan and resources to bring back to their schools to start a STEAM focused club, organization and/or be able to help infuse STEAM into the curriculum at their schools. As an #ItWasNeverADress Ambassador, they will also receive the support of an advisory board made up of influential, community leaders who will contact them quarterly to offer professional guidance as they start their own STEAM inspired school clubs!

Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19
8:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. (both days)
Axosoft, Scottsdale
