Tablet Adoption Soars in SMB Market According to Intermedia

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwire) — 08/02/11 — Apple is the smartphone and tablet of choice amongst small and medium-sized businesses according to Intermedia, a global leader in cloud services and the largest email provider. Intermedia, which manages 350,000 premium hosted Exchange email accounts, reviewed the number of ActiveSync(1)-based smartphones its customers activated to sync their email, contacts and calendars. 78 percent use an Apple-based device, with 57 percent choosing the iPhone and 21 percent choosing the iPad. iPad activation is up 102 percent since May when Intermedia last reported statistics, with more users relying on iPad than any other single ActiveSync smartphone or tablet, except for iPhone.

Intermedia-s business email and collaboration services support the full range of smartphones and tablets, including iPhone, Android devices, and BlackBerry. Total breakdown of ActiveSync-based smartphones, by device type, activated on Intermedia-s platform includes:

57 percent on iPhone

21 percent on iPad

9 percent on various Motorola devices

8 percent on various HTC devices

LG, Nokia, Palm and Samsung devices make up less than 4 percent combined

Note: No specific user or account action/email was reviewed by Intermedia in determining these statistics. The BlackBerry remains a central component to Intermedia-s mobility offering, but this data is specific to ActiveSync devices, which does not include hosted BlackBerry.

“Mobile workers are relying on multiple devices to get business done, from their traditional computer to their smartphone, and increasingly their tablet,” says Manlio Carrelli, CMO, Intermedia. “These workers expect their business email, contacts, calendars and files to be available and synced up across all their devices — and to be able to use whichever brand and type of device they prefer. This can be a resource challenge for small and mid-sized businesses to set up, secure and manage on their own. Intermedia-s cloud services deliver these collaboration and productivity capabilities as a service with 24×7 support from certified professionals.”

In addition to hosted Microsoft Exchange 2010, as well as other Microsoft products such as Office Communications Server 2007 and SharePoint 2010, Intermedia offers an integrated suite of cloud communications and collaboration services. These services include Encrypted Email, Online Backup, Hosted PBX and Conference Bridges. All Intermedia services are set up and managed from Intermedia-s HostPilotĀ® Control Panel.
