Platfora Deepens Support for Cloudera Ecosystem

SAN MATEO, CA — (Marketwired) — 09/22/15 — , the #1 Big Data Discovery platform built natively on Apache Hadoop and Spark, today announced expanded support for Apache Sentry, Impala and Parquet. Platfora 5.0 has added integrations to enable a more seamless, open workflow for customers using Cloudera, a leader in enterprise analytic data management powered by Apache Hadoop. The Platfora-Cloudera integrations provide more fine-grained authorization capabilities, efficient analysis of information stored in Impala and direct access to a popular Hadoop file format.

“We–re excited to strengthen our platform support for Cloudera–s distribution of Hadoop (CDH), the most popular distribution in the industry. It allows us to offer what our customers need to have the most secure and fluid interactions with their data,” said Jason Zintak, CEO of Platfora. “Cloudera is a trailblazer in Hadoop innovation and we continue to work together with them to make data-driven initiatives a reality for enterprises.”

Platfora 5.0 includes enhanced integrations with Cloudera including:

Platfora is extending its delegated authorization capabilities to support Apache Sentry, a unified authorization mechanism integrated into Cloudera–s distribution of Hadoop. Sentry support enables customers to apply fine-grained permissions to data once it is in Hadoop, manage those permissions centrally through Sentry and integrate seamlessly within Platfora.

Enterprises are increasingly adopting Impala for workloads formerly served by a data warehouse. Platfora customers can now perform big data discovery directly with data in Impala. Through this integration, metadata stored in a Hive metastore is automatically read by Platfora, eliminating redundancy and enabling a more efficient workflow.

Apache Parquet is quickly becoming a standard for storing big data and is the most common backing file format for Impala. With Platfora 5.0, users can now directly access data files in the Parquet format.

“The latest release of Platfora Big Data Discovery highlights the company–s unique approach to blending traditional data analytics with modern capabilities to maximize enterprise investments in big data initiatives that have true impact,” said Tim Stevens, Vice President, Business and Corporate Development at Cloudera. “We–re pleased that Platfora values its integration with our enterprise data hub (EDH) offering and look forward to supporting the company–s open workflow initiatives to address the needs of our joint customers.”
