Dresner Advisory Services Publishes 2015 Small and Mid-Sized Enterprise Business Intelligence Market Study

NASHUA, NH — (Marketwired) — 09/30/15 — Dresner Advisory Services today released its 3rd annual Small and Mid-Sized Enterprise Business Intelligence Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. The 2015 report provides a focused, detailed examination of the small and mid-sized enterprise (SME) market for Business Intelligence (BI) by its own characteristics, drivers, and trends, as well as how it compares to the large enterprise market.

In this study, “Small Enterprise” is an organization with between one and 100 employees and “Mid-Sized Enterprise” has between 101 and 1,000 employees.

“A few years ago we began to see interesting dynamics emerging within SME organizations around their approach to BI from the project drivers, goals, and technology priorities through to penetration and success rate,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. “In examining the particular trends and intentions within small and mid-sized enterprises we offer yet another perspective on the current state of BI market and its future growth drivers.”

Much like larger organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises prioritize a range of BI technologies and initiatives with these priorities remaining fairly consistent across three years of study. Top priorities in common are dashboards, end-user self-service, advanced visualization, and integration with operational systems. However, smaller organizations show considerably less interest in data warehousing than large peers and are more interested in software as a service / cloud computing and mobile device support.

SMEs in 2015 report much higher levels of BI penetration than larger organizations, with executive management and sales as the top functional drivers, more so than at large enterprises. SMEs also target executives slightly more often than their large-enterprise peers, which are more likely to target managers.

Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. BI users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the BI market.
