SimpleCitizen Announces $700K in Seed Funding for Platform Development

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — (Marketwired) — 10/29/15 — , the trusted immigration partner, today announced a $700,000 seed round led by Utah-based Kickstart Seed Fund, with additional participation from Peterson Partners, Pelion Venture Partners, Apple Tree Capital, and Jacob Sapochnick. The funding will be used for development, such as adding processing capabilities for different types of visas and green card renewals, and spreading SimpleCitizen to a wider audience.

SimpleCitizen launched in July 2015 to provide a simple online, trustworthy solution to help ease the complex, multi-year U.S. green cards and citizenship process that three million people go through every year. At the end of the SimpleCitizen process, a customer can expect accurate, completed documents ready to submit to the USCIS.

“Since launch we–ve been taken aback by the stories of the individuals and families who have wrapped up their applications through SimpleCitizen and are finally on their way to gaining U.S. citizenship,” said Sam Stoddard, CEO and co-founder of SimpleCitizen. “SimpleCitizen was designed to take the frustration and fear out of the immigration process, so we–re continuing to comb through every step of the application to make it as fast and accurate as possible. The support of our advisors and investors will help us realize our vision of making citizenship more attainable for everyone.”

Applicants using SimpleCitizen cut down on 90% of the time and money spent when compared to traditional paper applications and immigration lawyers. Completing a green card application on paper without assistance takes at least four months. Applicants who use SimpleCitizen have finished their paperwork in a few days, with 27 hours being the average time to completion, and in some cases as little as three hours. The site has seen web traffic from more than 130 countries.

“SimpleCitizen is helping to solve one of the biggest problems facing our country right now — expediting the immigration process for outstanding potential citizens. They have already had a deep and meaningful impact on peoples– lives by helping them navigate the murky green card process,” said Morgan Davis, Associate at Kickstart Seed Fund. “All of the companies we invest in do great things, but SimpleCitizen is one of the few in our portfolio that will drastically change its customers– lives for the better. We couldn–t be happier to support them in this journey.”

“We are really excited about our investment in SimpleCitizen; Sam and his team are bringing an excellent software solution to a manual and inefficient process,” said Ben Lambert, Senior Associate at Pelion Venture Partners. “We were impressed with the progress they made up to this point in time with almost no resources and look forward to beginning this journey with SimpleCitizen.”

“We–re excited to have the privilege of helping SimpleCitizen streamline the immigration process,” said Tim Hansen, Associate at Peterson Ventures. “Their solution is addressing vital issues affecting millions of people every year, making it easier for families who want to call the U.S. home.”

“Ever since I got engaged I was dreading applying for my green card, as only horror stories from fellow international students surrounded the subject. However, SimpleCitizen has made this daunting, arduous task the most painless process ever,” said Olivia Clearwater, SimpleCitizen user. “In all honesty printing the entire application took me longer than entering all my information into the website. I was finished within the day. Even non-technical people like me can navigate around it with ease.”
