Replacing the Computer Science Degree: Bloc Launches One-Year Software Engineering Program With Job Guarantee

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 11/12/15 — Bloc, a mentor-led online coding bootcamp, launched a one-year today to replace the traditional Computer Science degree. This one-year program extends the bootcamp model to greater technical depth and guarantees a job offer in software development after graduation.

was designed with input from engineers on world-class engineering teams at Facebook, Twitter, Google, Amazon, and more. The track combines computer science fundamentals with the pragmatic skills taught in a coding bootcamp.

“Our new program, which combines the best elements of traditional computer science education and vocational developer bootcamps, will produce software engineers that are ounce for ounce as good as those from MIT, Stanford, or any other top engineering university. We are so confident in this program, we–ll guarantee results or refund tuition in full,” says Roshan Choxi, CEO of Bloc.

The Software Engineering Track is a 48-week (full-time) or 72-week (part-time) online program that teaches frontend and backend web development, data structures, algorithms, and other computer science fundamentals through one-on-one mentorship from seasoned professionals with experience at top companies. The program culminates in an apprenticeship phase to deliver the real-world development experience valued by top engineering teams.

Bloc aims to provide an affordable alternative to the traditional four-year Computer Science degree. According to College Board statistics, a Computer Science degree costs, on average, $37,640 from an in-state public university and $129,620 from a private nonprofit university. Tuition for Bloc–s program only costs $24,000, with financing options available. Students save on tuition, and they can start earning three years earlier than their degree-seeking counterparts.
