First Annual PGConf Silicon Valley PostgreSQL Conference Draws Large, Lively Crowd

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 12/10/15 — Citus Data, creators of solutions that scale out PostgreSQL for real-time big data, today discussed the success of the first annual conference held November 17-18, 2015, at the South San Francisco Conference Center. Organized by Citus Data in cooperation with the San Francisco PostgreSQL Users Group, the conference was attended by more than 260 Postgres practitioners from four continents and more than 10 countries. During the event, Citus Data announced its plan to open source CitusDB 5.0 during the first quarter of 2016, a plan that was met with a broad round of applause from the enthusiastic audience.

Standing-room-only crowds attended the conference–s sessions, including talks by Citus Data CEO and Co-founder Umur Cubukcu on PostgreSQL scalability, Continuent CEO Jay Kreps on Apache Kafka, and Pivotal Software–s Greenplum Database Product Manager Ivan Novick on PostgreSQL License, Vendor Eco-systems, Cloud Providers, and Future of RDBMS.

PGConf Silicon Valley and the co-promoted a very well attended and interactive PostgreSQL community reception at the Brass Elephant Lounge and Sports Bar.

The conference featured a great lineup of speakers from TripAdvisor, Urban Airship, Square, Heap, AWS, Rackspace, 2nd Quadrant, and Pivotal, with many popular talks generating standing-room-only crowds.

As another sign of the significant interest in the conference, prior to the event, the , chaired by Josh Berkus, CEO of PGExperts, sorted through nearly three times as many submissions as available breakout session slots. Despite adding an additional breakout session track, the Committee still had to turn away many strong proposed talks.
