The Virtual Reality Foundation Announces AMD as Premier Sponsor of 2016 Events

LOS ANGELES, CA — (Marketwired) — 01/20/16 — Today, the Virtual Reality Foundation announced that tech innovator AMD will be the Premier Sponsor for all 2016 events, including the sold-out VRLA Winter Expo this Saturday, January 23. That means a more robust calendar for VR enthusiasts, including VRLA expos in both winter and summer, the VRLA school series of lectures and master classes, and the third annual Proto Awards, which honor the best in immersive media

“The VRLA Expo has become the defining event for all involved in this emerging medium. Bringing industry leaders, creators, directors, producers, the game industry, and entertainment together with enthusiastic fans; it is the premier VR event,” Roy Taylor, AMD Corporate Vice President, Content & Alliances. “AMD is pleased and proud to have helped make VRLA into the success it has become.”

The 2016 VRLA Winter Expo will take place Saturday, January 23 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Over 70 exhibitors (Starbreeze Studios, Crytek, Epic Games, Survios, Virtuix, Otoy, and 360Heros, to name a few) and a capacity crowd of 3,000 enthusiasts are expected to attend. Many will be trying virtual reality for the first time. Bleeding-edge VR technologies, such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive Pre, will be on display. The day will be stacked with presentations from AMD, Leap Motion, DFJ Venture, and USC Professor of Computer Science Hao Li, among others. VIP badge-holders will receive free Mattel View-Master Virtual Reality viewers, and one lucky attendee will go home with a fully loaded Falcon Tiki VR PC, powered by AMD processing and graphics.

“We–re thrilled to continue growing the VR space in 2016, thanks in large part to AMD–s support,” said Cosmo Scharf, Co-Founder, VRLA. “The Virtual Reality Foundation–s goal is to help promote the widespread adoption of virtual reality by creating a platform for showcasing the pioneering work of both companies and individuals.”

The VRLA Expo has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Once a meetup of fewer than 100 enthusiasts, it grew quickly out of borrowed spaces and into Los Angeles– premier event venue. The Winter Expo is expected to be the biggest event yet, setting the expectation bar high for summer. For more information, please visit .
