Decawave Opens Bay Area Office to Address Growing Demand for Micro-Location Technologies

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 02/16/16 — , specializing in precise location and connectivity applications, announced today it opened an office location in Burlingame, CA to expand its presence in the US market. Headquartered in Ireland, Decawave–s new office in the heart of Silicon Valley reflects the increasing demand for accurate micro-location solutions from end users and customers within the IoT and consumer markets.

The new location will house sales, marketing, business development, customer support and corporate executives to propel Decawave–s growth and strategy in the US market. Decawave is already providing its Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology to 1,500 customers globally, with a strong demand coming from US companies. This demand is evident across businesses within industrial sectors including healthcare, factory automation, safety, and mining, as well as sports analytics and the automotive and consumer markets including connected homes, drones and retail.

Decawave recently announced several new strategic partnerships at CES 2016, reinforcing its expansion within the US market, including a partnership with Jaguar Land Rover for a joint connected home and car technology and a partnership with Spalding and ShotTracker for the first multi-player basketball tracking technology solution. The new US office enables Decawave to be in closer proximity to existing US customers, as well as build relationships with newer ones.

“As we are closing a number of multinational deals, it–s critical to be in Silicon Valley to continue to be successful in the heart of the Bay Area tech hub,” says Luc Darmon, Decawave–s Chief Marketing Officer. “While already present in Europe, Korea and China, the US office will quicken Decawave–s plans to expand its global footprint in 2016.”

Decawave offers UWB wireless technology for precise location and connectivity applications that can identify the specific location of any object or person within a guaranteed indoor location accuracy of 10 cm. Recently, Decawave was named the winner of Nokia–s Open Innovation Challenge for its innovative micro-location technology enhancing the IoT market. Chosen from hundreds of applications, this win enables Decawave to leverage Nokia–s global market reach and bring micro-location to market more quickly.

Ciaran Connell, Decawave–s CEO, will lead the new office and oversee all business development operations. “Decawave–s expansion in the US is very important to us,” notes Connell. “Our technology is increasing in demand for applications in the smart home, smart factory and automotive sectors and we will be better able to serve out US customers from Silicon Valley.”

Decawave is a pioneering fabless semiconductor company developing a family of integrated circuit products called ScenSor, compliant to the IEEE802.15.4a standard, which can identify the specific location of any object, person or thing at very competitive cost, very low power and with a required level of precision and reliability never achieved before (+/-10cm). In addition, the data communication capability of the chip (up to 6.8Mb/s) makes it a perfect fit for IOT applications and other low-power wireless network applications.

With applications in diverse markets including factory and building automation, healthcare, ePOS and retail, robotics, warehousing, automotive and consumer, the company–s flagship DW1000 chip has garnered interest from more than 5,000 firms globally.

Decawave is headquartered in Dublin Ireland, with presence in France, South Korea, Taiwan and the US.
