Wikibon to Present First-Ever Spark Industry Forecast at Spark Summit East; Customer Panel to Follow

BOSTON, MA — (Marketwired) — 02/17/16 — SiliconANGLE Media Inc–s research team at Wikibon today announced the release of the first Spark industry forecast and its ten-year Big Data Roadmap on February 17th at Spark Summit East, held at the Sheraton Hotel in New York City. George Gilbert, Big Data & analytics analyst at Wikibon, will present the firm–s forecast. A panel discussion with customers and experts from Terbium Labs, DataXu, Databricks, and Wikibon will follow. Spark Summit is the epicenter of the dynamic, fast-growing Spark community, and the Wikibon Spark forecast promises to be a highlight of Spark Summit East 2016.

Spark is one of the most important Big Data technologies to emerge in the past few years because of its ability to run batch processes as much as 10 times faster than MapReduce and perform in-memory analytics up to 100 times faster. Wikibon–s research suggests Spark will complement Hadoop, although it will probably take market share from its primary data processing engine. There are several Big Data market forecasts, but the Spark industry forecast will be the first to break out just how Spark is remaking the marketplace, not just in numbers, but in terms of what gets built by vendors and bought by customers.

“Our report is the first to show how Spark is remaking the marketplace, presenting not just numbers of users, but also data about what vendors are building and customers are buying,” says Gilbert. “We–re also presenting an overall market forecast that will be a roadmap to the types of applications built on Big Data, the technologies on which these are built, and how these applications will ultimately reshape customers– businesses.” Gilbert also promises that the report will delve into what a Spark-based transition from batch processing to continuously streaming real-time applications will mean for the Internet of Things (IoT) and for organizations.

“There–s so much more to the Big Data ecosystem than either Spark or Hadoop alone,” says Gilbert. “Organizations looking to leverage Big Data don–t have packaged applications to choose from, so what we see in the market now is triple-digit growth for vendors offering custom applications that help companies make the most of Spark, streaming analytics, cloud deployments, and IoT.”

Spark has essentially replaced the data processing engine at the heart of Hadoop.

Spark is poised to change Big Data applications from batch to continuously streaming real time applications.

In the process, Spark is making Big Data applications accessible to millions of additional data scientists, engineers, and developers.

After the presentation of the Spark forecast report, a panel discussion will describe different visions of customer journeys, emphasizing vendors– different value propositions for a range of customer needs, The Hadoop vendors want to coopt Spark with their management and storage layers. Databricks wants to be the nexus of the ecosystem. Public cloud vendors want to use their operations expertise to democratize access to the technology. Hear from several customers who are well into their journey with Spark about which of these value propositions matched their needs and why. Guests will include Danny Rogers, CEO, Terbium Labs (MapR); Beth Logan, Senior Director of Optimization, DataXu (Qubole); and Tamer Hassan, CTO, White Ops (Databricks).
