Advantech-DLoG’s latest-generation logistics terminals available with IGEL Linux thin client operating system

IGEL OS ideal for remote management of the in-vehicle devices and smooth roaming in WLAN environments

Reading, UK. February 29th, 2016 – IGEL Technology has collaborated with Advantech-DLoG, a specialist for industrial PC and in-vehicle terminal solutions, on its latest generation vehicle terminal series, called the DLT-V72. The rugged industrial PCs are suitable for all types of logistics application and will now be available with the IGEL Linux operating system. As a result, they can be remotely managed quickly and easily using the Universal Management Suite (UMS) management software – free with all IGEL solutions – and dovetail seamlessly into central IT infrastructures.

A further highlight of the joint development work is direct integration of the Advantech-DLoG WLAN drivers in the Linux firmware. This ensures that roaming between the multiple access points in a WLAN is as smooth as possible without any signal dropout. With the DLT-V72 series, the two companies are presenting a well-designed combination of hardware and software as a perfectly matched overall solution.

The DLT-V72 series from Advantech-DLoG is the successor to the successful MTC 6 model range, with which IGEL and Advantech-DLoG established their technology partnership four years ago. The new generation of in-vehicle terminals are built to withstand extreme weather and are not affected by dirt, dust, vibrations or hard knocks, minimizing the need for maintenance and repairs and ensuring smooth, continuous use. Apart from powerful processor technology and extensive configuration options, the DLT-V72 series has a raft of interfaces and wireless technologies. The devices come in 10” and 12” form factors and innovative mounting bracket concepts mean the terminals can be used conveniently in almost any logistics vehicle.

Centralised Management Cuts Costs for Management and Maintenance
The IGEL Linux operating system allows smooth access to centralised IT infrastructures that are provisioned by means of Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop, Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, VMware Horizon and many other software solutions. In addition, a local web browser provides the interface to cloud services. As a result, the Advantech-DLoG DLT-V72 series can be deployed as a universal client that is also suitable for hybrid environments.

Using the IGEL UMS management software all settings in the vehicle terminals can be managed remotely. The terminals can also be managed in groups based on profiles. This feature allows frequently used settings to be easily predefined and then readily assigned to individual or whole groups of devices with just a few mouse clicks. Firmware updates, which are only occasionally needed, can be scheduled to be distributed automatically over the network at convenient times, such as during stops in production.

The industrial PC series DLT-V72 from Advantech-DLoG is available now.
