RFS Announces Next Phase of Broadcasting Solution Deployment at NYC–s One World Trade Center

MERIDEN, CT — (Marketwired) — 03/23/16 —

Last year, RFS that it was working closely with Metropolitan Television Alliance (MTVA), The Durst Organization and individual broadcasters, on UHF and VHF trial arrays at One World Trade — the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere — to demonstrate how the system and venue would perform to deliver terrestrial television services to the entire NYC coverage area. Now, following successful results, plans are proceeding for permanent installation of RFS– variable polarization UHF array antennas along with a 662-16D circularly polarized VHF array antenna. The order also includes radiation pattern testing at the RFS antenna test range and on-site installation supervision services by RFS field engineers. Myat, Inc. is serving as project manager.

“Unlike other manufacturers which require the polarization ratio be agreed upon by all broadcasters using a common antenna, RFS is able to provide a future-proof solution that gives each broadcaster maximum flexibility, while also ensuring the arrays will be able to support the changes brought on by the repack,” said John Lyons, assistant vice president and director of broadcast communications at The Durst Organization. “We were very pleased with the results of the trial arrays and are confident in the strong commitment RFS– management team has made to ensure our target delivery schedule is maintained.”

“We have a long and proven history in the broadcast market and have done a number of high-profile tall building applications globally, so we are particularly excited to apply our expertise and industry-leading technology to such an important project for New York City,” said Nick Wymant, CTO of RFS– Broadcast Division. “One World Trade Center is one of the most iconic buildings in the world and will surely become one of the premier transmission sites for over-the-air broadcasting.”

RFS antennas will ship this spring and installation will begin in summer 2016. RFS also recently announced the addition of expansive indoor and outdoor space at its Meriden, CT facility designated exclusively for the production and testing of its state-of-the-art broadcast products to better serve the needs of the U.S. market.
