TopSpin Security Demonstrates Efficiency of Proactive Deception, Presents Findings at DEF CON

MAHWAH, NJ — (Marketwired) — 06/22/16 — TopSpin Security, Inc., a provider of offensive malware deception and detection solutions, today announced that its Head of Research, Omer Zohar, has been selected to speak at DEF CON 24, one of the oldest continuously running hacking conventions. During his talk on August 5, Zohar will discuss his research findings, which demonstrate the efficiency of proactive deception cybersecurity practices.

When it comes to protecting against today–s advanced and continuously changing attack methods, relying solely on a prevention strategy is no longer adequate. It is only a matter of time before a hacker breaches an organization–s perimeter defenses, meaning security teams must go on the offensive and create a web of non-stop, real-time deception operations. Deception technology, which has been a wartime strategy for centuries, is able to detect threats in cyberspace without relying on signatures, heuristics or complex behavioral pattern. It also uses luring techniques to entice attackers away from valuable company assets and into pre-set traps.

To demonstrate the efficiency of proactive deception, Zohar and his team reconstructed a real enterprise environment and evaluated the effectiveness of mini-traps and decoys against both automated, machine-based attacks, as well as against sophisticated human attacks from red-hat professionals and white hat hackers. During his session, Zohar will present his team–s findings, which will answer common questions about proactive deception practices such as:

What is the detection rate of the traps against various malware families?

How quickly do attackers reveal themselves when faced with different types of traps?

How does deception integrate with current security operations already in place?

Omer Zohar has over a decade of experience as a developer and researcher in the data security market. As Head of Research for TopSpin Security, he is responsible for the research of malware and post-breach detection methods, and for defining advanced detection schemes.

TopSpin Security is a leader in offensive deception technology which allows organizations to quickly and accurately detect breaches, engage attackers and neutralize advanced cyber-attacks. Our technology is based on a network of decoys that lure attackers by mirroring valuable network assets. Once engaged, the decoy interacts with the attacker, deceiving it and slowing its advance, while providing accurate, actionable alerts and forensics trail. TopSpin–s DECOYnet is already deployed by leading Global2000 companies. Learn more at .
