FAA Creates Commercial Drone Pilot–s License (Part 107)

Yesterday, the FAA announced they will begin to issue drone pilot–s licenses in August to operate drones weighing less than 55lbs. The new rule requires operators to take a written test on drone related aviation knowledge. With this pilot–s license a drone pilot can operate during the day, up to 400 feet above ground level, within visual line of site of the drone, and in multiple classes of airspace as long as they receive permission from the local air traffic controller. Pilots will not have to get permission to fly in class G airspace.

Gone are the days of complex processes requiring large amounts of paperwork and permission to fly from the FAA.

Draganfly–s public safety customers will be allowed to adopt Part 107, which enables their operators to obtain drone pilot–s licenses and operate under these rules. No longer will an agency be required to obtain a COA (Certificate of Authorization) to get permission to fly.

“We expect that this ruling will allow our customers more flexibility to operate under the rules set forth by the FAA,” said Zenon Dragan, “We know many operators were waiting for Part 107 to be released before making the decision to acquire a drone, so this ruling creates a lot of immediate opportunities.”

Draganfly Innovations is very excited for not only what this means to the industry, but to humanity as a whole. This is a major step for the adoption of this world-changing, lifesaving technology. Draganfly customers in the United States now have a clear path to become safe, professional users of drone technology.
