Light Reading Validates ADVA–s Virtual Switch

NEW YORK, NY — (Marketwired) — 06/23/16 — Light Reading has published the results of an important independent evaluation of Ensemble Connector, a virtual switch developed by ADVA Optical Networking. The independent test was conducted by leading networking technology test company EANTC, and paid for by Light Reading, to ensure impartial and authoritative results.

EANTC performed a number of tests to evaluate Ensemble Connector, which can be deployed as the customer premises equipment (CPE) component of a New IP-enabled, NFV infrastructure (NFVi) that can support commercial virtual network functions (VNFs). Those tests measured the performance and scalability of the Ensemble Connector and compared it with the standard implementation of open vSwitch to provide a meaningful baseline comparison for network operators.

The key takeaway from the evaluation is that ADVA has developed a virtual switch that not only performs much better than a regular open vSwitch implementation, but which is also designed to function in virtualized service provider environments.

“Network operators know there are multiple options they can choose from as they add virtualization capabilities to their networks but, in general, there is a lack of independent insight into how NFV infrastructure elements perform and whether they can meet the stringent demands of commercial network deployments,” said Light Reading Editor-in-Chief Ray Le Maistre. “Evaluations such as this one provide valuable proof points to the industry and, in this instance, provide independent validation that ADVA–s Ensemble Connector outperforms open vSwitch,” added Le Maistre.

“We put the ADVA Ensemble Connector through a series of realistic scalability tests representative of service provider environments,” said Carsten Rossenhoevel, Managing Director, EANTC. “The Ensemble Connector used the available resources of the underlying Atom platform efficiently; specifically, it excelled over stock Open vSwitch implementation when we scaled Ethernet and IP services. This is a significant step towards the deployment of virtualized CPEs in business environments.”
