Media Advisory: Wordnik-s Tony Tam to Present at NoSQL Conference August 25, 2011

SAN MATEO, CA — (Marketwire) — 08/23/11 — On Thursday, August 25 at NoSQL Now conference in San Jose, CA, Tony Tam, Wordnik-s Technical Co-founder and vice president of Engineering, will present a session titled “What Drove Wordnik Non-Relational?” This session will describe, in case study format, how Wordnik used the NoSQL technology MongoDB to bypass scaling challenges with MySQL as Wordnik built a directed graph of all the words in the English language. This runtime graph is backed entirely by MongoDB and is enabled by Mongo-s speed and document-oriented storage features.

Wordnik currently has one of the largest deployments of MongoDB for its specific type of usage. To ensure MongoDB was going to be the best database for Wordnik, the engineering team ran the database through rigorous testing, migration and performance drills — with a few surprises along the way — before making its ultimate commitment to MongoDB.

Sub-topics of interest will include:

How using MySQL caused challenges for Wordnik

Why complexity of data retrieval made a speedier system appealing

How MongoDB-s document-oriented storage dramatically reduces development time

The critical role of scaling and how VM performance affects it

Why Mongo DB ultimately made the most sense for Wordnik-s needs

Presentation: What Drove Wordnik Non-Relational?
Speaker: Tony Tam, Co-founder and VPE, Wordnik
Date/Time: Thursday, August 25, 11:00-11:50 a.m. PT
Location: San Jose Convention Center
