Optimized printing for MS Terminal Services with Thin Client support

RDP only: optimized printing specifically for Microsoft Terminal Services, now also with thin client support

ThinPrint expands the successful .print RDP Engine product series and integrates support for thin clients

(Berlin, November 2006) ThinPrint, market leader for print solutions in distributed networks, announces the availability of its new RDP Engine 7.0, a print management solution specifically for Microsoft Terminal Services. In addition to Windows PCs and thin clients with embedded XP, the new version now also supports all other thin clients. That means that companies with thin client networks can also use the print data compression and bandwidth control in the ThinPrint solution. The RDP Engine 7.0 can be used both for Microsoft terminal servers and for accessing standalone Windows XP computers across a Remote Desktop Connection. The DRIVER FREE PRINTING technology combined with 64-bit support makes printer driver problems in this environment a permanent thing of the past.

Although users of the RDP Engine products can enjoy the main advantages of the .print technology, such as automatic support of any printer without requiring the associated printer driver (DRIVER FREE PRINTING), faster print speeds, and up to 99% less data volume, the software runs with absolutely no administration whatsoever. For example, the RDP Engine automatically detects whether a thin client or a PC is connected and makes the necessary adjustments. If a PC is connected, automatic support of additional print features, such as duplex and paper source including printer specific paper tray descriptions, are also available. Even without a printer, mobile users can print documents to a file that can later be printed from any convenient printer.

Support for thin clients requires the relevant ThinPrint .print Client. This is available for more than 80% of all thin clients, but must be installed on the hardware in the latest version incl. RDP support. Most WYSE devices are furnished with the current .print Client at manufacture.

“The new RDP Engine is our response to the demand of customers who also want to use this startup solution with thin clients. We are proud that with version 7.0, it is now possible to deploy the best SBC print technology available on the market in environments of medium complexity and size while simultaneously automating print management 100%,” states Carsten Mickeleit, Managing Director of ThinPrint GmbH. “Naturally we are also aware that a steadily increasing number of larger companies with more complex requirements are also running pure Microsoft Terminal Services infrastructures; for them, we still recommend our .print Application Server Engine, which, from network printer support through to SAP integration, leaves no wish unfilled. It is possible to upgrade from the RDP Engine at any time.”

RDP Engine 7.0 in its various versions is already available worldwide from more than 400 authorized partners or online through the eChannel partner network at http://www.thinprint.com/shop. A free demo version can also be downloaded there. ThinPrint gives customers who purchase the product online a 30-day money-back guarantee.
