Dr. Bain to Discuss -Big Data- at the New York Technology Council and the Wall Street Technology Association

BELLEVUE, WA — (Marketwire) — 09/12/11 — Dr. William L. Bain, founder and CEO of (ScaleOut), a leading provider of distributed data grids and data analysis solutions, will discuss cloud-based data management at the (NYTECH) on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m. EST. The morning after, on September 14 at 7:30 EST, he will present on how financial institutions can leverage in-memory computing for fast data analysis at the

Dr. Bain has a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and parallel computing from Rice University and has worked at Bell Labs research, Intel, and Microsoft. He developed a distributed Web load-balancing software solution that was acquired by Microsoft and is now called Network Load Balancing within the Windows Server operating system. Dr. Bain holds several patents in computer architecture and distributed computing. As a member of the screening committee for the Seattle-based Alliance of Angels, Dr. Bain is actively involved in entrepreneurship and the angel community.

As part of the NYTECH-s September cloud computing program, Dr. Bain will explore new tools and techniques for managing large-scale, distributed data sets. Cisco estimates that by 2015, annual global Internet traffic will cross the one zettabyte level, a fourfold increase from 2010 levels. Storing, processing and analyzing even the tiniest fraction of that data will require drastically different technologies from the structured, relational data management tools organizations have so far relied on. NYTECH-s cloud session will take place on Tuesday, September 13 at 6:00 p.m. EST at the PowerSPACE, 330 Madison Avenue, 9th Floor, New York, NY 10017.

On September 14 at 9:55 a.m. EST, Dr. Bain is taking part in WSTA-s seminar on Information Management, Agile Data. While popular, disk-based map/reduce frameworks can analyze very large data sets they still require data retrieval from secondary storage, which limits performance. During his session, he will explain how employing a large distributed cache to perform map/reduce on memory-based data has the twofold advantages of very high performance by minimizing data motion and a simplified programming model. The WSTA is holding its seminar at the , 270 West 43rd Street, New York, NY 10036. General admission starts at 7:30 a.m. EST and will be opened by keynote speaker Mary Knox, Research Director at Gartner. Other speakers include executives from CollabNet, EMC Consulting, Informatica and Information Builders, including iWay Software.

ScaleOut Software develops software products that provide scalable, highly available caching and analysis for workload data in server farms and compute grids. It has offices in Bellevue, Washington, Beaverton, Oregon, and New York. The company was founded by Dr. William L. Bain, whose previous company, Valence Research, developed and distributed Web load-balancing software that was acquired by Microsoft Corporation and is now called Network Load Balancing within the Windows Server operating system.
