SEH Unveils WLAN USB Device Server myUTN-54

In 2008 SEH launched the myUTN USB device server series to circumvent the limitations of
the USB (Universal Serial Bus) standard regarding the local usage of USB devices. Utilizing
myUTN USB device servers allows users to remotely access USB devices in over a network
and makes them independent of USB cable lengths as the recommended standard
maximum length is only five meters. The models myUTN-50 for Ethernet and Fast Ethernet
networks (10BaseT/100BaseTX)and myUTN-52 for fiber optic networks (100BaseFX) are
already available. All myUTN models are simply attached to the network (Windows 7, Vista,
XP) as plug & play devices. Special device drivers or network expertise is not required.

Cost-saving Potential and Versatile Applications

Utilizing the SEH UTN Manager software installed on the PCs or notebooks, users manage
the myUTN devices as simply and transparently as if they were installed locally at the PC. A
user list allows sharing USB devices without having to plug them into a different
workstation each time a different person wants to use them, or even to buy more USB
devices for other users to avoid this. Dongles for securing CAD/CAM software, for example,
can be securely attached to a myUTN device and are no longer easily lost while being
accessed from different users remotely from their PCs. To this purpose a user needs to
release the USB device after using it, so that the next person is able to access it. This
works in server-based computing (SBC)-environments, too: All USB devices, such as
external disk drives, scanners, printers etc. can be attached to myUTN devices to be used
and shared across the network. Alternatively users can configure a myUTN device so that
only one user can access them like a local peripheral, e.g. with AutoConnect for automatic
connection to the PC upon booting.

Secure USB Virtualization in a WLAN

The myUTN-54 WLAN USB Device Server is equipped with the currently safest encryption
standards for WLAN access points, WPA/WPA2 (personal and enterprise modes). This
standard offers potent protection by utilizing dynamic keys. WPA2 is based on the highly
secure Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm. The security package of myUTN-
54 also includes the latest authentication methods according to the IEEE 802.1X
standard. Users have the option to encrypt the USB data transfer either by RC4 (128bit) or
AES (256bit) and to configure the device via SSL/TLS encryption. The function “Port
Access” allows define who may access the USB devices attached via a myUTN-54 USB
device server.

Service and Warranty

The myUTN-54 WLAN USB device server and its sister models myUTN-50 and myUTN-52
come with a warranty of three years (extendable to five) and the benefit of SEH technical
support and regular software and firmware updates.
