Xeround Announces Commercial Availability of Cloud Database Service on the Rackspace Cloud; Releases API

MILPITAS, CA — (Marketwire) — 09/20/11 — , the Cloud Database Company, today announced the commercial availability of their database-as-a-service for MySQL-based applications on the Rackspace Cloud. Furthermore, the company is releasing an API, allowing developers to configure their application to automatically create and manage multiple database instances in the cloud.

After five months in beta serving hundreds of users, Xeround-s database-as-a-service has become commercially available on the Rackspace Cloud. This is in addition to commercial availability on Amazon EC2 and the Heroku platform announced last June. Xeround-s service will initially be offered on Rackspace in the US and then expanding to Rackspace UK and additional cloud providers in the next few months.

Xeround customers running their applications on Rackspace can now choose to create their cloud database on Rackspace as well, and enjoy Xeround-s no-downtime guarantee and true elasticity. Customers are entitled to a 30-day free trial, after which their database instance will be charged by actual usage — depending on data size and data transfer.

In addition, the company has released an API allowing developers to easily configure their software to provision and manage multiple Xeround cloud database instances.

Many applications today are required to create a new database instance for every end user or account that uses the service. This is especially true for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) applications. Effectively managing sometimes thousands of database instances is becoming a major operation problem for many providers. Each database has its own needs in terms of size, throughput and performance — and ensuring multi-tenancy, scalability and availability, is challenging. With Xeround-s API, these applications can easily create numerous database instances and assure they are optimally running in the cloud, and that all scalability and availability issues are automatically handled by the service itself.

“We-re thrilled that our offering is now commercially available on Rackspace,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround. “This is a major step forward for us in terms of offering our customers multiple cloud platforms to choose from — hundreds are already taking advantage of Xeround-s service on Rackspace. Further, the new API enables enterprises to take the headache and guess work out of manually dealing with multiple database instances by offering high availability and automatic scaling for the database with no management or development overhead.”

“Xeround-s solution on top of the Rackspace Cloud addresses customers who need a scalable, and reliable cloud database solution,” said Ven Shanmugam, Senior Manager, Strategy and Corporate Development at Rackspace. “Now with it being commercially available, any organization or developer can reap the benefits of an always-on and elastic MySQL cloud database on the Rackspace Cloud.”
