SUNNYVALE, CA — (Marketwire) — 10/17/11 — , the Silicon Valley of , today announced that it has received the prestigious Award of Excellence and has been named a finalist in the Rising Star category for the Platts Global Energy Award. The 2011 were selected from more than 200 nominations by program host Platts, the leading global provider of energy, petrochemicals and metals information. Today, servers in data centers consume more than 1.5% of the energy in the United States. The power and space consumed by servers are crucial issues at the business as well as the macroeconomic levels. SeaMicro was created to solve these challenges and is the leader in energy efficient server design and manufacture.

SeaMicro-s latest offering is the SM10000-64HD server, which uses one-quarter the power and takes one-sixth the space of the best in class competitor. The SM10000-64HD uses SeaMicro-s patented fabric technology to integrate 384 dual core IntelĀ® Atom processors into a 17.5 inch tall system that is the highest performing, and most energy efficient server ever built. The SM10000-64HD is x86, 64-bit and requires no changes to existing software thereby ensuring the benefits of energy efficiency are available to the entire X86 software ecosystem.

“The amount of power and space consumed by servers is a growing problem at all levels of society,” said Andrew Feldman, CEO, SeaMicro. “SeaMicro has developed products and technology to radically reduce the power consumed by servers. Our products are now deployed on four continents, producing massive reductions in energy use not just in the US but globally. We are proud to be recognized by Platts, and will continue our commitment to shrinking the carbon footprint produced by the world-s computers.”

In addition to successfully deploying three breakthrough servers in less than a year, SeaMicro has been the recipient of many recent awards for its green technology, including being named a Most Promising Greentech company by AlwaysOn, a Ten Big Ideas winner by GigaOM, and a Top 10 Cleantech company by the Wall Street Journal.
