Top 10 IT Vendors in Central Europe Reported $500 Million in Revenues from Utility Sector in 2010, According to IDC Energy Insights

The top 10 IT vendors in Central Europe (CE) generated a total of $514 million in revenues from the utility sector in 2010. According to a new IDC Energy Insights study, the 10 biggest IT vendors active in the utility sector in Central Europe (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and Romania) include Accenture, Asseco Group, Atos, HP, IBM, Logica, Ness Technologies, Oracle, SAP, and Sygnity.
“We analyzed the competitive landscape of IT vendors operating in the utility sector in Central Europe based on revenues for this sector and region, as well as on the qualitative characteristics of IT vendors- utility sector-dedicated portfolios,” said Milan Kalal, senior research analyst with IDC Energy Insights. “It is evident that the utility IT market across CE remains very competitive, while local IT companies continue to keep pace with international vendors, benefiting from flexibility, niche focus, and lower price,” added Kalal.
Additional key findings include:
– The market is dominated by HP, with $162 million in direct utility revenues, followed by IBM, with $99 million, together making up about half of the total revenue generated in the CE utilities market by the top 10 IT vendors.
– SAP is the leading software provider in the utility industry in CE, with solid brand recognition and suite offerings for smart energy that will secure its position among the leading IT vendors in the future.
– IDC Energy Insights also considers Oracle to have continuously improved its alignment to the utilities industry over the recent years, becoming an increasingly important player.
“This study provides utilities- CIOs, IT departments, and line-of-business managers with an independent high-level assessment of the top 10 IT vendors that offer industry-specific solutions for the utility sector in Central Europe,” explained Kalal. “It can be used to integrate a list of providers to watch as executives consider where to spend IT dollars in the coming year.”
