Greythorn Finds Optimism in IT and Telecoms Recruitment Market

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 10/27/11 — IT and Telecoms recruitment company Greythorn has conducted research in Ireland which shows that in the last 12 months the number of job vacancies in the IT market has risen by 45%. With the average rise being 29%, IT is clearly outperforming other sectors in terms of growth and recovery, which is good news for Telecoms and IT recruitment companies as well as candidates.

In general in the UK, salaries for IT & Telecoms professionals have risen between 5% and 7.5% on last year. The average salary in these two sectors is now around GBP 46,000. Additionally, some job advertising media, particularly specialist IT job sites, are reporting an increase in vacancy advertising, some as much as 25% on last year.

Additionally, the Telecoms and IT recruitment company Greythorn is reporting that 79% of professionals in this sector have also seen an increase in bonus payments, with the average bonus now being 19%. Around 56% of IT and Telecoms workers receive bonuses, so this bonus percentage pushes the average total remuneration up quite significantly.

An increase in confidence in market conditions and the stabilising economy has allowed directors to invest in again, along with a realisation that IT and Telecoms is an area that companies cannot afford to take shortcuts on, even in difficult times.

Mark Gray, Senior Consultant at Greythorn said: “During the crash, many employers put their focus on internal promotion rather than active recruitment in order to keep their heads above water. But employers are now realising failure to invest in the IT function comes with a big long term cost. Companies hoping to expand need a modern and flexible tech infrastructure and as the recovery gets underway, this has generated strong demand for those with the right expertise”.

Paul Winchester, Managing Director of Greythorn, comments that the rise in salaries is indicative of a skills gap, as it “shows that experienced and talented professionals are currently in short supply, and employers are having to pay more to make sure they get the right people.”

With an increase in vacancies and high salaries on offer, candidates are in a position to take advantage of the candidate driven market within Telecoms and IT recruitment, and as the growth and confidence continues specialist IT and companies will have an even bigger role to play in helping companies meet the demand for talent.
