Acquia Launches “Acquia U” to Employ and Train Recent College Grads, Career Changers in Web Development

BURLINGTON, MA — (Marketwire) — 11/07/11 — , the enterprise guide to Drupal, today announced “” — a program to employ and train recent and upcoming college graduates, as well as career changers, in Drupal. Due to the remarkable growth in adoption of the open source social publishing platform, there is incredible market demand for qualified Drupal developers and designers. Exceptional candidates will be hired as Client Advisors, will participate in six week training program, and then become full time employees of Acquia or Acquia-s partners.

Despite a tough economic climate, demand for Drupal talent has never been greater, with the job aggregation site reporting nearly 3,000 open positions for those with Drupal skills. Popular jobseeker site matches “Drupal” to more than three times as many jobs as for competitors “Sitecore”, “Jive”, and “Tridion” combined.

“Our partners include Drupal development, training, design, and integration companies, and many of them have more work than they can handle,” said Erich Ludwig, Acquia-s Director of Learning Services. “They are constantly asking us for help expanding their staff, and we, too, are a growing company continually facing the challenge of finding qualified Drupal support and engineering talent.”

“As the enterprise guide to Drupal, Acquia benefits directly from the platform-s growth,” he continued. “By giving smart people the training they need to succeed in these jobs, we help maintain the high level of quality for which Drupal is known.”

“Acquia-s got it right,” says Dan Phillips, Founder/Director Entrepreneurship Center at UMass Boston. “We need education and the private sector to work together to deliver workforce development training that prepares and places students in growth markets. And Drupal is certainly a growth market.”

“As a school that is heavily invested in Drupal for hundreds of our websites, we are pleased to see Acquia commit resources to developing the next generation of Drupal programmers to ensure that Drupal continues to be a robust and well-supported web content management platform,” said Stephanie Birdsall, Director, Information and Communication Technology, Arizona State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. “There is a real need in the marketplace for training our college grads for available jobs, and we applaud Acquia for taking this task on.”

Employees will be hired as Client Advisors and enrolled in Acquia U, where they will:

Receive six weeks of paid, hands-on, intensive training in Drupal and supporting LAMP skills.

Receive additional training in presentation skills, problem solving skills, and other relevant topics.

Work individually and in groups to learn and demonstrate mastery of these skills.

Rotate through Acquia-s support, engineering and professional services teams, as well as through select Acquia partner projects. These rotations will provide real-world experience and give participants an insight into available work in Drupal.

Finally, join Acquia-s support, engineering and professional services teams.

The program is open to recent or imminent college graduates as well as individuals looking to change career paths. The first session of Acquia U will start in January 2012. Applicants must be located in (or willing to relocate to) the greater Boston area, and be able to work in the United States. Preference will be given to those with computer science or engineering backgrounds, although exceptional candidates from all backgrounds will be considered.
