Lectra Serves as Georgia Soft Goods Educational Foundation-s Platinum Sponsor, for Second Year

ATLANTA, GA — (Marketwire) — 11/18/11 — Lectra, the world leader in integrated technology solutions dedicated to industries using soft materials — textiles, leather, industrial fabrics, and composite materials — served as a Platinum sponsor for the Georgia Soft Goods Educational Foundation-s Fashioning Soft Goods event, for the second year in a row, held in conjunction with the Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors, College of Family and Consumer Sciences, at the University of Georgia on November 15, 2011.

The event showcased various tools being used by The University of Georgia-s students in the Design and Merchandising areas, as well as the work students are completing and research they are conducting. Attendees were also informed of the support The University of Georgia has received from The Georgia Soft Goods Educational Foundation, which has funded work such as the research of more eco-friendly resources for textile products.

As a Platinum sponsor of the event, this spring Lectra will name one student at the University of Georgia as the Lectra scholar of the year. Also for one year the CAD classroom will be recognized as the “Lectra classroom”. “Lectra is proud to support the education efforts of the Georgia Soft Goods Educational Foundation”, says Roy Shurling, President of Lectra North America. “Educating today-s students is integral to the success of the industry-s future.”

Andrea Giraudo, the recipient of last year-s Lectra scholar of the year award spoke about how support, such as the Lectra scholarship, benefits the future of the UGA program, as well as increasing opportunities for students.

“We were honored to have Lectra return this year as a Platinum sponsor of the event,” said Mike Fralix, President of Georgia Soft Goods Education Foundation. “The support of those in the Soft Goods Industry, like Lectra, is key and a testament to the value of the future generation of industry professionals, and we are grateful for their support in our efforts to attract qualified individuals into the sewn products industry.”

The Georgia Soft Goods Education Foundation, Inc. provides support to academic programs in the State of Georgia. Its initiatives include the funding of Professorships, Scholarships, Study Abroad Programs, and other academic programs related to the soft goods industry.
