SeaMicro Wins Big at Energy Industry “Oscars,” Named the Industry Rising Star by Platts

SUNNYVALE, CA — (Marketwire) — 12/05/11 — , the Silicon Valley of , today announced that it has received the Rising Star Award in the Platts Global Energy Awards. Established in 1999, and known as the energy industry “Oscars” the Platts Awards recognize pioneers and leaders who are challenging the status quo of the energy industry through leadership and innovation. SeaMicro beat out six other finalists — whose technology ranges from solar energy to cleaner coal — at the awards ceremony in New York City. The company received the Award of Excellence from Platts a few weeks prior.

SeaMicro-s revolutionary low power server technology addresses a growing need to stem energy consumption in data centers. Today, as people move more of their lives online, servers in data centers use more than 2.5 percent of the energy in the United States, and the number is expected to double every seven years. SeaMicro-s latest server, the SM10000-64HD, uses one-quarter the power and takes one-sixth the space of the best in class competitor. Implemented on a large scale, the energy gains from this technology are enormous.

The SM10000-64HD uses SeaMicro-s patented fabric technology to integrate 384 dual core IntelĀ® Atom processors into a 17.5 inch tall system that is the highest performing, and most energy efficient server ever built. The SM10000-64HD is x86, 64-bit and requires no changes to existing software, which ensures that the benefits of energy efficiency are available to the entire X86 software ecosystem.

“SeaMicro was founded to bring low-power technology to a rapidly growing highly inefficient area — the data center,” said Andrew Feldman, CEO, SeaMicro. “We are proud to be recognized for our achievements, and honored to stand beside other leaders in the field, all of whom are working to reduce energy consumption and to make technology more efficient and more green.”

SeaMicro has received recognition and numerous awards from organizations like the Wall Street Journal and GigaOM in addition to successfully deploying three servers in just over a year. For more information on the company, please visit .

SeaMicro is transforming the data center landscape by building servers that draw one-quarter the power and take one-sixth the space of traditional servers. By delivering breakthrough innovations borne of multiple technology domains — CPU design, virtualization, supercomputing and networking — SeaMicro has created a new server architecture purpose-built for scale out infrastructures such as those found in the web-tier, online gaming, search and index computation. SeaMicro was founded in 2007 and is backed by Khosla Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Crosslink Capital, as well as leading public corporations. The company also received the largest Department of Energy grant given to a server company, $9.3 million as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
