HP Helps ViaWest Beat Cloud Competition

PALO ALTO, CA — (Marketwire) — 12/13/11 — HP (NYSE: HPQ) today announced that ViaWest has selected , based on , to stay ahead of competition as a cloud services provider.

HP 3PAR Utility Storage will serve as the backbone of ViaWest-s KINECTed Storage solution, a new managed cloud-storage service for customers seeking more efficient data center strategies.

ViaWest, one of the largest privately held data center service providers in North America, owns and operates 22 data centers. The company provides colocation, complex hosting, cloud and managed services to businesses of all sizes nationwide.

With the market trending towards an outsourced operating expense model versus a capital expense infrastructure investment, ViaWest identified an opportunity to grow its business by offering a new cloud service called KINECTed Storage, which provides cloud-based storage and computing services.

Upgrading to HP 3PAR storage and enabled ViaWest to launch its new service and offer customers the newest storage functionalities through a cost-effective, cloud computing model.

The combination of HP storage and server offerings created a single platform that enables ViaWest to efficiently manage its own data center while providing secure, real-time data management capabilities without interrupting its clients- daily workflows.

“At a time when exponential data growth is placing unrealistic demands on our clients- legacy systems, tighter IT budgets have prevented companies from investing in the latest storage solution functionalities,” said Jim Thompson, vice president, Product Management, ViaWest. “The functionality and scalability of HP 3PAR systems has helped ViaWest to meet the needs of those clients and deliver reliable, flexible and affordable cloud storage services.”

Powered by HP 3PAR Utility Storage, a virtualized, multitenant disk array, ViaWest-s KINECTed Storage offering is the most successful and fastest growing product in the managed service provider-s history. HP 3PAR systems help to increase KINECTed customers- return on investment by minimizing system downtime and IT administration requirements.

also delivers cost savings by providing customers the flexibility to scale storage up or down on an automated basis to meet future data requirements while only paying for the capacity they need.

“As demand for cloud computing continues to grow, managed service providers must remain competitive by delivering storage services capable of increasing clients- return on investment while minimizing their IT administration costs,” said Chris Riley, vice president – Americas, Storage, HP. “The efficiencies, functionality and scalability of HP 3PAR Utility Storage align with the organizational goals of ViaWest as well as those of its customers.”
