Fantasy Politics Puts Fun Into 2012 Election Season

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwire) — 01/12/12 — Fanitics () is a Facebook application similar in concept to fantasy football, but focuses instead on politicians and their political performance. The game tracks presidential candidates, governors and Congressional members on metrics like fundraising, polling, media mentions, bill tracking, and more. Launching on Facebook allows users to interact directly with a platform they are familiar with. It-s free to play, and users can create and join leagues starting January 1st.

“Fanitics is a fun and competitive game that allows family, friends and colleagues to engage in politics in a whole new way. Political metrics are aggregated in a completely fair and transparent process,” says founder JD Chang. Game-play settings allow for customizable options so each league can enjoy the game in its own way. Users start by drafting teams of politicians and then add, drop and trade just like in fantasy football. With customizable time frames for each season, college professors can start a semester league for students and political diehards can play a specific season like debt ceiling, national primaries, or the national election.

“Any random fantasy football league has some experienced pros, some casual fans, and some friends who just want to be part of the crowd. The reason fantasy football has exploded is because any of them could win their league. In fact, the player who originally drafted his/her team based on jersey colors may end up knowing everything about the 3rd string receiver on the Bengals and winning the league,” says Chang. “Now, give those same friends a fantasy politics league. Some will have strong political views, some will just know the candidates, and the rest may want to be part of -the crowd.- How great would it be if the -the crowd- started winning with decisions based on objective metrics? Politicians you thought were great never pass bills. Politicians you-ve never heard of are sleeper picks. Imagine the trash talk and discussion that league would have. And, just as important, imagine the amount of engagement and knowledge everyone will gain. That-s what Fanitics is about, and that-s what we-ll empower for political audiences in 2012.”
