CloudBees Donates Five Plugins to Jenkins Community

WOBURN, MA and PARIS — (Marketwire) — 04/17/12 — , the Java Platform as a Service (PaaS) innovation leader, today announced it is now providing three previously proprietary plugins for free and donating two open source plugins to the Jenkins Community. The free plugins enable the Jenkins Community to easily manage a large number of projects, backup Jenkins to the cloud and detect minutes wasted by jobs waiting to be serviced. The open source plugins allow Jenkins users to unify credential management, detect file leaks and diagnose -file error- problems.

is a subscription service that provides support for open source Jenkins, as well as a number of value-add plugins. The plugins provided with Jenkins Enterprise by CloudBees help enterprises address issues encountered in sophisticated Jenkins environments. The following plugins have been made available for free to the Jenkins Community:

: Jenkins users can use the Folders Plugin to create hierarchical folders or custom taxonomies to more easily manage large numbers of jobs. An ability to organize Jenkins jobs hierarchically has been one of the most requested features of the community.

: Jenkins users can use the Backup Scheduling Plugin to backup their existing Jenkins configuration to the cloud. Users can choose to backup job configurations, build records, system configurations or any combination thereof.

: This plugin helps with capacity planning by highlighting time wasted due to jobs waiting for executor resources. If administrators find that the minutes keep stacking up, they can add more capacity.

CloudBees is an active supporter and contributor to the Jenkins Continuous Integration (CI) open source project, contributing development resources and providing select plugins to the community. CloudBees has donated the source code for two plugins to the Jenkins Community. They are:

: Helps Jenkins users diagnose the “too many open files” problem. It watches file descriptor open/close activities of a JVM and allows you to see the list of what-s currently opened, as well as the Java call stack that opened the file.

: This plugin allows you to store credentials in Jenkins. It provides a standardized API for other plugins to store and retrieve different types of credentials.

“CloudBees continues its strong support of the Jenkins community,” said Kohsuke Kawaguchi, founder of the Jenkins open source project and elite developer and architect, CloudBees. “The donation of these free and open source plugins brings enterprise-level capabilities to Jenkins users. As Jenkins usage among enterprises increases, users and administrators face an increasing set of challenges — from reliance on Jenkins for mission-critical application development, to complex environments containing many masters and build machines in their Jenkins configurations. We-re happy to help relieve these pain points with new plugins that enhance security, productivity and manageability both on-premise and in the cloud.”

The three proprietary plugins are available for download from the Jenkins Update Center through the CloudBees Plugin Gateway. Jenkins users must download the CloudBees Plugin Gateway and register with CloudBees to get access to the free plugins. The open source plugins are available from the Manage Plugins page of the Jenkins Update Center.
