Typesafe Sponsors Sold-Out Scala Days in London

LONDON — (Marketwire) — 04/17/12 — today announced that Scala Days, the world-s premier Scala conference, has registered 400 attendees from all over the world. Guy Steele, Software Architect and Principal Investigator of Programming Languages in the Programming Languages group at Oracle Labs, will be delivering the opening keynote.

“Scala Days has quickly become the Scala language event by bringing together developers of all backgrounds to share the unique capabilities of this fast-growing programming language,” said Martin Odersky, creator of the Scala language and Chief Architect and Chairman of Typesafe. “We are very proud to be sponsoring this year-s event in London, epicenter of the fastest growing Scala user group. We hope to build on last year-s great success at Stanford and continue contributing to the positive momentum that the language has been gaining.”

A central part of the Scala Days event will be the Scala workshops, a series of forums to showcase and discuss a wide range of cutting-edge Scala research projects. In addition to the many , additional sessions will be devoted to , experience talks, and tool demonstrations, offering comprehensive insight on all that is going on in the Scala world. Social lunches and an evening Scala Days Reception, which will offer further opportunities to meet and discuss with all the people that matter in the Scala world in a relaxed social context, have also been planned. This year-s sponsors include Google, Heroku and Cloud Foundry among others.

In addition to Martin Odersky-s 2nd day keynote address on the future of Scala, Principal Investigator of Programming Languages at Oracle Labs, Guy Steele will present on the parallels between Scala and Fortress and what these two languages can learn from each other. Anthony Rose, Co-Founder and CTO of Zeebox, will present on how Scala is helping re-invent the Media and Television industry, and Simon-Peyton Jones, researcher at Microsoft-s UK research center, will be presenting a talk titled, “Towards Haskell in the Cloud.”

Building on the successful of the company in May of 2011, Typesafe released Typesafe Stack 2.0 , including the innovative Play Framework 2.0 and Akka event-driven middleware 2.0; with significant enhancements for building concurrent and distributed applications, Typesafe also introduced the Typesafe Console, a new commercial monitoring and management tool for Typesafe Stack applications. Ahead of Scala Days 2012 this week, Typesafe published a maintenance release of the Typesafe Stack (2.0.1) and a of the Scala IDE for Eclipse 2.1, which includes new Scala debugger support.
